Re: Which is historically more important: The TR-808 or the Linn LM1?

I think the Linn for sure. Not just sonically, but in the way it could be programmed. The 808 was severely lacking in any kind of realistic drum programming. The better theoretical question could be, "What drum machine today will have the impact of the Linn LM1"?

Re: PolySix worth buying?

Delayed triggers happen with the korg keys of that era (i have a poly61). The fact that some keys were quiet when triggered is more worrying to me, and could be a deeper issue than contacts. Sounds like you made the right choice.

Re: Ultravox

Maybe some Simple Minds. The first 4-5 albums have a lot of good synth and post-punk instrumentation.

Re: Over 1000 Vintage Synthesizers in one room (Swiss Museum of Electronic Music)

The stuff had been hoarded (and neglected) for many years before it ended up in a warehouse, and the state many instruments are in is slightly doubtful. They seem to be too underfunded to keep everything in working shape, and their backlog must be enormous. Yes, it does look nice but it is slightly...

Re: Question re: "jam boxes" e.g. NI Maschine, Novation Circuit etc

I haven't used the Squarp, and ultimately ended up going for an Elektron Octatrack instead because it' just does a lot more. The sequencer is not as powerful as the Squarp, but the sampling capability and drag and drop of samples onto the CF card tipped me that side. Also, I'm all for things using t...

That's absurd! Why does it make you depressed PPG? I'd love to go there and play around someday. Switzerland isn't exactly nearby, but it certainly isn't too far from you! I like "lookmum", he's doing it right if you ask me, regardless of the stimulants.

Re: The 4-op Yamaha DX synths

Deflemask is great if you want to use PC software and is what I've used to directly port music to the console. The YM2612 was actually even more limited than most Yamaha Dx 4-ops. A lot of what gives the Sega Genesis music that particular sound is the journey and limitations you have to go through w...

Re: New synth from Novation

That certainly ticks all the boxes for me. Great design/layout, and really powerful. Price is in a pretty fair range too! I'm pretty sold on this one.

Re: Question re: "jam boxes" e.g. NI Maschine, Novation Circuit etc

Check out these and research the specs and features on youtube. It's really hard to say what you need or want so you probably just need to try one and see. I have no experience with ModX, but I avoid anything that has a touch screen like that because I might as well use a laptop at that point (i hav...

Re: Synthesizers with awesome arpeggiators

The Novation Ultranova has a really crazy arp with a ton of patterns, and great midi sync. It doesn't reset on keypress, but rather listens to clock, so you're always in time when playing new chords.

Re: Bass Station 2 firmware 4.14 AFX mode

Novation is killing it on providing quality to their gear. I'm really happy with the Circuit line, and these updates have kept my Bs2 in heavy rotation for a while now! Can't wait to update and give more detailed thoughts.

Re: Novation Ultranova discontinued in USA

On another Novation note, looks like the Circuit Mono Station (which is pretty much a bitimbral BS2) is already discontinued too, or no longer on Sweetwater. It was released on 2017. Very short run on that one! It was always on my scope too.

Re: Novation Ultranova discontinued in USA

My LCD went dead. I opened it to replace the filter encode which barely worked, and to get to any knobs on the panel, you need to remove 2 small ribbons that are glued down. It's not pretty, and I need to basically rewire it. Love the engine, not too happy with that design decision.

Re: Ensoniq EPS 16 or Emax II

I've played live with both at different times. Really, with today's midi sequencing options, I wouldn't want to sequence anything with either of them live. As far as pure sound sources and synths, they're both really unique and have different sounds. The EPS16+ has a lofi crunch, especially when you...
