Re: Decent amp for a beginner?

Buy something used, you will get more for your money that way. Peavey is always a good choice, they are very reliable and sound good (not incredible, just good). A tube amp will cost you more money but you will probably be much happier with one if you can afford it.

NI's 2019 Summer Sale -- Komplete Bundles

Just FYI: NI has announced their 2019 summer sale until June 30, 2019 . This year it's about hardware bundles, buy a Maschine, Komplete Kontrol keyboard or Komplete Audio interface and get various Komplete bundles at a discount. The big deal is that Komplete 12, normally $599, can be had for much le...

Re: Yamaha S03 - Drums Layer on Keys - How to deactivate??

If you have the S03 connected to anything over MIDI, disconnect it. Enter Voice mode . You should hear exactly one sound, the voice you have selected, across the full keyboard. If this is NOT the case, come back here for more help. I do not own an S03 but Yamaha's used the same voice and multi mode ...

Re: Prophet X and Prophet 6 overlap?

If you already use Cubase, then get the Prophet 6. Sample based software instruments cost a lot less than a Prophet X (and you already have some).

Now if you have an infinite budget and are composing blockbuster movie soundtracks, sure get a Prophet X, too ;)

Re: Ensoniq ASR-X Sequencing Question

Seems a really silly approach though, considering a sequencer could have eliminated the need for doing that at all. Except they couldn't sequence the Trident and Rhodes (no MIDI). Sounds they were using the ASR-X more like Ableton Live...create a bunch of audio sections, put each into the ASR memor...

Re: Effects review

Download the demo and user manual for U-He's Satin. It's 129 EU or 145 USD so a lot more expensive than your Waves plugin.

Re: Deepmind 12 Arpeggiator - Start/Stop Control via MIDI?

See p.119 of the manual. There is an NRPN control that will toggle the on/off button found on the front panel. If you also have Key Sync OFF in the arpeggiator settings, the arp will start on the next clock (internal BPM or MIDI, at the specified note value) after a note is triggered (by keys or by ...

Re: Effects review

With actual tape, saturation and compression go hand in hand, due to a phenomenon called self-erasure. After a certain signal level, adding more signal puts less signal on the tape. I'm surprised that Waves would have missed this...that's why printing drums to analog tape is still so popular. I'm al...

Re: How to get a $100 discount on Reason!!

First you need to create a user account at Propellerheads website. Then log into that account from your phone the first time you use Reason Compact. If you then go back to the website and check your user account under My Products you will see Reason Lite listed as an available download. Click on thi...

How to get a $100 discount on Reason!!

If you've been thinking about buying Reason, here's some interesting news. Propellerheads has just released Reason Compact v2.0 for ioS and Android. It's a free app store download. The app itself isn't too impressive but it also entitles you to a free copy of Reason Lite , which is a limited feature...

Re: value of a used M1 with accessories?

A fair price is anything close to what closed sales on eBay or Reverb show. The M1 is popular with Mexican/American musicians so tends to be worth more to that set of buyers. Outside of that group, it's strictly a buyer's market.

Re: Roland JX8P w/M16C plus case for a Korg Arp Odyssey

Whether I would or not makes no difference because I am not you and probably don't have the same needs. Comparing a polysynth with patch memory and MIDI to a monosynth with no memory and weak MIDI support (no velocity, AT, CCs, etc.) is apples and oranges. Think about how much you are using the JX8P...

Re: Question re: "jam boxes" e.g. NI Maschine, Novation Circuit etc

Using USB for power saves the mfr the trouble of providing a power adapter, that's all. They give you a USB cable and expect you to own a phone charger. I'm seeing this on all kinds of devices these days, not just audio gear.

Prophet if you must have real analog. It sounds similar to the Mopho.

Virus if you can live with digital and need the higher voice count and multitimbral features.
