Re: Why hasn't the TR 606 gained the notoriety/value of 808/

I just picked up a 606 for $50 on CL; the guy had it in storage for awhile, took it out and couldn't get it to power on; I told him I would give it a shot and took it off of his hands. I got it home, plugged it in, and... nothing. Opened it up, looked for blown caps, corrosion, etc but couldn't find...

Re: Moog Little Phatty midi gone wild

first, check to make sure your outlets are properly grounded, then check this thread: http://www.moogmusic.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=63214&sid=0baf43a537c1719e7fb25d86013f9a1d Unfortunately, It is a bug in the new firmware. Amos @ Moog used to be a regular here on VSE many years ago, and being somew...

Re: small poly for live

IF you can deal with the wheel, the Alpha Juno can't be beat as a fairly lightweight, inexpensive hybrid; 24db Curtis Filter gives it some really nice pads, basses (and of course supersaw! listen to "Dominator" by Human Resource for an example of this) and it's dwarfed in comparison to the 6 60 and ...

Re: next?

if you're looking for a really great "bang for buck" sound system that can be used to monitor mixes and general listening, I'd look at either going with a pro-sumer level system or splitting the duties between two pairs of speakers. Reason being is that monitors with a flat-response can increase ear...

Re: next?

Genelecs sound like wet dog food next to Adams. get a pair of A7's; the 5's are nice, but they won't do the heavy lifting the 7's will. Yes, they're expensive, but probably the most important (and least considered) piece of gear in your entire studio is your monitors; a flat reference will not hide ...

Re: Electribe Tubes

the Metasonix R-51 is a starved-plate design but it will still smoke (no pun intended) other "tube" effects because of the 48v switching supply; this provides enough power to push the tubes into true vacuum tube soft clipping, not just a gain staging.

Re: Chemical Brothers "We Are The Night" intro sound

I think you're onto something with the MS-20; a chicken makes a lousy duck. seriously, the filter on the VCS is much wetter and squelchier than the Korg's, and the LFO range on the VCS is far wider, easily capable of audio-rate frequency, so I think you'll be able to *approximate* the sound, but the...

Re: Chemical Brothers "We Are The Night" intro sound

VCS3, you can tell by the filter, also nice thing is that you can cross-mod parameters assigned to the joystick and control both pitch/ filter env and (audio rate) LFO at once.

Re: Electribe Tubes

truth is it's a total gimmick; the tribes don't even supply enough juice to push the tubes into soft clipping, which is where the magic happens. IIRC, there's an led positioned behind the tube to give the illusion of the filament glowing as well? how wack is that? a cheap "starved plate" solid state...

Re: Ridiculous eBay 'Buy-it-now' and starting bids.

Surprisingly enough, noone has taken into consideration the fact that we are all guilty of jacking up the prices on vintage gear, ALL OF US. every single thread about "who used what to create the fart-sound synth brass on Howard Jones' last album" (who cares?), posting samples of FM vs AM modulation...

Re: How can I achieve the Zapp & Roger bass synth funk sound?

Roger Troutman/Trautman used a Yamaha DX-100 through a Heil Talkbox for the "vocoder" sound. If you dig around on YouTube etc, I'm pretty sure you'll find examples of the technique.

The "massive snare" was most likely a LINNDrum cranked up in the mix with some compression to make it sizzle.

They're playing chords on a Korg MS20 in their video for runaway.. I don't know if they know what they're doing http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PHMynl9QX7g o rly? :? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q9p7_aDmVMY I think it's safe to say they know EXACTLY what they're doing.
