Re: Synths that sound 'out of place' in songs
Air's Talkie Walkie is one of my favorite albums of all time. Great songwriting and phenomenal sound design and playing with an overall pristine studio sound. Still, I've always thought Surfing on a Rocket would have been better with live drums. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fUhQXibl-n4 Live drums...

Re: How to play 808 Chromatically from Analog synth
I sample all my analog gear and manipulate it in software because the analog stuff tends to sound more robust and it holds up better in processing. Sometimes there are little surprises hiding in there.

Did I mistake VSE for an Apple forum?
"Can anyone recommend a good X?"
"X is dumb. Why do you want X?"

Re: keyboard/synth
Heh, that's a tough one.
My guess is that it might be a sampler because it seems to have more outputs than a normal synthesizer would have.

Re: Arturia Matrixbrute
Holy s**t!
This looks like one of those mock-ups/hoaxes that looks too good to be true. What do you think? $3,000?
edit:
Oh, in my excitement I think I assumed this would be a polysynth. I guess it's a duo. Still, analog effects is an interesting twist. Can't wait to hear it.

Re: Korg Minilogue Polyphonic Analog Synth
I really like the sound of his thing. In the French demo I can hear a lot of Detroit techno sounds like Carl Craig's Landcruising, Drexciya, or any of the Detroit Escalator Company stuff. Very cool.

Re: On the importance of using "hot" gear
Many mixing engineers have a rack full of outboard gear even if they primarily use software to impress clients who think that the only way to get a commercial sound is through expensive equipment. Being a laptop musician is fine if that's what gets the job done, it just doesn't wow anyone.

Or even worse, "just a laptop with some software."

Re: On the importance of using "hot" gear
This is just my opinion, but all the gear you listed sounds great, is easy/fun to use, and is relatively affordable. I think that's all there is to it. For the most part electronic musicians produce music because they love it, not because they're trying to cash in, so any trend would be because they...

Re: Moog Mother 32 Eurorack synth voice
Great videos. Thanks! Is it just me, or does the Mother 32 sound a bit juicier than the other recent Moog offerings? I have a Voyager that is sitting in the closet because it just doesn't have any character compared to my other synths, but this sounds quite different. A little sizzle and buzz with s...

Re: Suggestion for first analog synth
Do you have access to any second-hand shops? From the links you posted I would recommend something older by Roland, like a JX3P or an Alpha Juno, or one of the rackmount Roland DCO synths in the MKS series. None of these are fun to program, but for the price they sound good. I think the Casio CZ ser...

...and cue people saying the JP-08 doesn't sound like the original the minute sound demos come out :D Yeah, but to be fair, how could it? It's not easy to replicate an aging, imperfect, analog beast, especially with such little horsepower. But I think there's always room for another synthesizer, be...
