Re: drum machine (minimal wave recording)????

getting fed up with the OP - he seems to want to be spoon-fed everything without even really experimenting or even really knowing what minimal wave is. i'd say stop replying.

Re: Minimal wave tips??? Ensoniq, Moog, E-mu

Honestly, just start off with the mastering the ESQ-1 - it's very easy to understand, the sequencer is easy to use and will give you the basic knowledge behind sequencing, the synthesis is straightforward too and will give you a solid knowledge of subtractive synthesis - plus it has drum sounds, so ...

Re: Modulus 002 --- new synth from UK

the envelopes don't sound that snappy to me - if this is a high-end synth, i'd better hear attacks and decays as tight as a mini or p5.

and these are hardware envelopes?

Re: 4 Op DX synths Vs 8 Op DX Synths

Everyone always forgets about the V50. It's one of the last DX style synths Yamaha made in that series. And it has eight part performances. When you load in eight brass sounds all detuned a tad, it's one of the realest fake brass sounds I've ever heard. Also, the sequencer is solid. Loved that4 op ...

Re: Omni 1 and a stone phaser

well, the basic tone of the performer is more nasal sounding IMO and the ensemble effect is of a slightly different design, but with an omni and small stone, if you can't get satisfying disco strings, then you should give up :)

just use some outboard eq to achieve the type of tone you want.

Re: Deciding between a Prophet 5 Rev 2 or rev 3 or??. Help!!

my vote would be to go for a rev 3.3. it will be easier to repair and find techs, the chips are easier to source, it sounds like a prophet 5 (the 12 does not) and it is very stable - oh, and it's got midi. however, if you have the resources, by all means, source a rev 2 - again, if you have the reso...

I have to disagree - entirely.

As much as I like my SQ-80, it can't even approach anything remotely as ethereal, crisp, moving, grating, piercing, spiky or tough as a PPG. Shame on you, Mr. Sigman, you know this.

Re: Cleaning contacts on a Prophet600

This is SO much easier than dealing with a Pratt-Read assembly - just thank your lucky stars it isn't a Prophet-5. Just follow the instructions - it's really quite easy. Just go slow, be organized and be gentle with the rubber strips and keeping the contact board level/straight. Don't force anything...
