Re: Good crunchy, dirty, lofi samplers
The machinedrum UW is 12bit. Regarding running the S2000 at 8bit, all it does is is add a bit of noise to the signal. The mojo that you get from 12 bit samplers isn't just because they sample at 12 bits, it's the analogue input circuitry, non-linear bit depth and the anti-aliasing filters that were...

Re: Taking a short sample and making it long?
My smart a*s answer was to press the keys all the way to the left of middle C. "Makes" the sample much longer. ;) Really though, set loops, cross fade, reverse after crossfade (or reverse crossfade), add some LFO with a slow attack envelope with variations to pitch, amp, whatever. FX help too. Remem...

Re: scored a couple of akai s1000's, need help learning them
I'm not familiar with Akai architecture in the least (E-mu guy here), so take this with a grain of salt. If you want to start making sounds immediately, just load in some disks and load samples. Those older Akais may need to have the OS loaded on start-up, not sure. You should have a disk for that a...

What were the 70s like for you, John?

Re: which synth should be set on fire?
Has to be the Microkorg. Not because it's a bad synth, but because of the people that use it... If burning one saves us from yet another hipster indie band that's money well spent  I would venture to say that far worse music has been made with a Moog of some sort. Reference every album from th...

Re: Destroy your Synth-Pop idols
I apparently voted for too many options.
Ergo, this thread sucks almost as much as all the British bands (and Kraftwerk) listed within its walls.

Re: #Selfie Synth
Mindless songs about mindless activities completely lacking any grandiose pretense are far better than pretentious wankers masquerading behind their banal wheedling and calling it real 'art'. Oh, please define your 'progressiveness', 'pacing', and 'catchiness' while I fall asleep listening to your ...

Re: #Selfie Synth
I don't think in the 90s people defended garbage like they do today. This fear of being a hater is just out of control and sad. I don't remember anyone needlessly defending AQUA's Barbie Girl ... Which sounds like Mozart compared to most garbage today. AQUA was our ABBA. Mindless songs about mindle...

Re: #Selfie Synth
Do you shop in one? 'Cause ditto. So, me = discriminating consumer just trying to enjoy myself while the blowhard behind the counter extols the virtues of minutia x over minutia y, therefore ruining the experience for everyone within ear shot? That was the analogy I was trying to make, so congrats ...

Am I the only in a smoking jacket, sitting cross legged in a leather chair with a pipe and glass of expensive wine listening to Selfie?
John, per chance, do you work in a comic book store? You have the persona down flat.

Holy f**k, so much awesome in this thread.
I, for one, am glad commodorejohn has found the musical equivalent to his posts here.
Honestly, this song is far better than any ELO song in existence. Outtroll that, bitches.

Re: ACCESSible VIRUS - clarification
I had a TI Polar for some time, and I was always impressed by the depth of sounds I could create (most certainly not a one trick pony). It would certainly be in my list for top VA that does much more than bland a*s analog emulation. What did bother me enough to eventually sell it was a seemingly muf...

Re: What is a live synth-based performance ?
Before I lock this thread, not because I hate it, but because we just had it... If you have to set hard limits on what constitutes art in your world, and then feel the need to spew that viewpoint on those around you, you are an incomplete child. This is okay. Feel free to make your world as small as...
