Re: how to achieve this detroit techno sound

MPC500 should record CC's, also can generate them with the Q link slider, that might just be on JJ OS.

Re: Andromeda tips & tricks thread

I haven't had a chance to check, but I was thinking about the different levels of clipping that you were getting with filter 1 and filter 2. Filter 2 opens to 40kHz or so IIRC, where as filter 1 opens to 20kHz, I did all my testing with Filter 2 because of this factor, it opens up wider so I can see...

Re: Andromeda tips & tricks thread

yeah, the clipping is happening in the pre filter mixer, and happens on all waves that I tested, also with filter bypassed. remember that filter 2 goes all the way to 40kHz when wide open, if you are using a software scope your inputs might be band limited like ona soundcard 20Hz to 20kHz or somethi...

Re: Andromeda tips & tricks thread

I did some tests with the andromeda and my oscilliscope, and I can see the clipping with a fully open filter 2 or with the filter bypassed. I didn't notice any difference in the clipping point. Single osc with sine wave the clip point is at about a value of 60, with both osc's on sine wave and synce...

Re: Andromeda tips & tricks thread

Some soundcards are AC coupled and also invert on the input, this is usually a caveat on software oscilloscopes that use your internal soundcard. I doubt the minimoog was labeled wrong, last time I sampled one it was consistent with the panel. The way I was told to test it was to just hook up a AA b...

Re: What would you sell to help fund andromeda, if u were me?

I sold a number of things to get my Andromeda years ago, I have no regrets, but I did carefully weigh what I sold and made sure I kept things that I used the most in my tracks, sometimes those things were less impressive on paper than what I ended up keeping. Also, I loved everything that I sold, be...

Re: The New Tom Oberheim SEM Thread

I think the main reason for wanting it to sound exactly like a vintage SEM is curiosity to see if it is possible to make something that sounds vintage today. Moog made a great synth in the voyager, but hopes for it to be on par with a minimoog soundwise were not met. But then again, it was a new des...

Re: Tom Oberheim Interview - Need Your Help

I would love to hear him talk about the development of the Xpander and Matrix-12. Those synths are still unmatched in many ways and the team that worked on them must have been an amazing group. What his favorite synth is (that he developed) what synths he used that inspired him to go the road of dee...

Re: inverted vcf keyboard tracking?

yes the Andromeda can do it, so can the Oberheim Xpander and Matrix 12, maybe the matrix 6 can do it too, it wouldn't surprise me. With the tracking generators you can have it do more than just follow it straight up, I've used it before for having the tracking invert part way up the keyboard.

Re: Sun Ra synth ID?

When you see how amazing of a player Sun Ra is, you'll realize that he is not just banging on keys, but warping your reality through sound. It is the intention that he has behind his playing that shines through so strongly.

Re: Sun Ra synth ID?

This is a good intro to the man and some of the work he's done. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sApYx27yfnw His music catalog is so long that it's hard to point anyone in the right direction unless they have a wetsuit on. He had his own independant label in the 50's and recorded his own stuff in the ...

Re: Sun Ra synth ID?

According to the biography I read, He also used a Hammond Solovox in the late 40's. he was one of the first to get one when they became available IIRC. There are a few pictures in the book with it showing. Sun Ra is the most inspiring musician I have encountered, not always accessible to most, but i...

Re: Bob Moog on the Minimoog

The interesting thing about the minimoog and bob is that it was made and created not by him, and against his direct orders. I think the guy Murderhausen mentions is the guy who slapped together a small portable system out of factory scraps, the short keyboard was from a keyboard that snapped in two ...

Re: has anyone hooked up a yamaha cs15 to a FR mobius?

Your cable is probably an insert cable, one that splits stereo into two mono cables. You need a mono y cable.
