Re: Mackie 1604 Vlz Mixer or similar

IIRC the XLR Mic inputs will override the Line inputs, so in short, no you cannot use both XLR and Line inputs. You may want to double check over at the Mackie forums, or just download the user manual and check for yourself.

I heard one used underneath a kick drum from a live recorded kit... sounded HUGE!

I'm sure something similar could be achieved with samples though. If it is a good deal, check it out I say.

I was thinking more of your soundcard actually, rather than the pedals that you are going through... are you using a standard PC soundcard? How are you passing audio to your soundcard? Through an RCA lead?

Seems like it must be your recording chain. How are you recording? You can always alter and massage the sound with some gentle EQ to brighten the sound up a little...

And you were thinking Telefunken on that budget????

Just buy anything, all preamps in that price range will sound the same.

Remember kids: make sure the DI and amp audio is in phase when you're mixing them together!

If it is a good price as you say, I'd jump on it. I'm still using a 1st generation single 1.6GHZ G5 with 2 Gig RAM and it is solid and more than capable of running high track counts, liberal use of VST FX/Instruments etc.

For studio/recording purposes, I'd sooner spend money on something like a UAD-1 card, or other high end software compressor than buying cheap and nasty hardware compressors.

For live, these low end compressors are generally useable.

Seems to be a consensual hate for the MC-303 - I bought one out of curiosity, and because it was dirt cheap but I haven't really spent any time trying to program it yet.

Maybe I shouldn't bother...

I'm not saying this will work, but have you tried changing where the monitors are plugged in to the power outlet? Try using a different powerboard, or a different power outlet. Worth trying before shelling out crazy money for the Furman conditioner

Interesting link.

You could always check the output specs from the synth manufacturer to determine the output impedance

A "good" DI box makes a difference. There are some beautiful tube/valve DI's out there that sound gorgeous, but will cost you a small fortune. If you are only using your synths in the studio, and your mixer/audio interface are decent, than I would say having an average DI probably won't make much di...
