Re: Synths and You (the collection of opinions)

1) The synth that made you want to play music: It was not a synth, but the acoustic piano. 2) Your first synth: Roland D-50 in the end of the 80's. 3) The synth that has surprised you most: MFB Dominion I 4) The synth that has disappointed you most: Roland Jupiter 6 5) The synth you love most: Ober...

Re: Roland RS-505 Paraphonic Strings - Modern Equivalent?

[...] IMHO, my Roland VP-330 sounds not the same like the Roland RS-202. This one is much more dense, vintage sounding. It's the same with the Eminent Solina. The basic sound is more medium pronounced, a little bit more raw than the very aerial and spatial VP-330 string sound. [...] The RS-202 is a...

Re: Roland RS-505 Paraphonic Strings - Modern Equivalent?

I consider Stringmachines as complementary to the polyphonic synthesizers. Like said before, it's allmost impossible to achieve exactly the same sound with an analog polyphonic synthesizer. But here i speak as a string machine enthusiast... IMHO, my Roland VP-330 sounds not the same like the Roland ...

Re: Name ONE favorite pedal (+more)

Actually, i'm using a Strymon Big Sky and i'm amazed 'bout the sonic qualities. Really impressive, works perfect together with the Eventide H9 for delay's and other effects, while the Big Sky is assuming the spacy reverb and chorale effects !

Re: Dave Smith Mopho x4 vs. Studiologic Sledge

I'm playing in a soul/funk band. And this is the synth i choose, to complete my stage piano. For basses, i still have a Moog Prodigy. I prefet it over the Mopho X4 for these kind of funky basses. But for brasses, stabs, pads, the X4 is really good. http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/1024x768q90/41/p6r...

The audio quality is not good in the first video (smartphone mic?).

Here is another video with better sound quality. ;)

Re: New analog Arturia synth?

And no DIN midi out... :( I think that's in keeping with the Volca-esque character of the machine. Only the bare essentials here. Which is too bad, really, because it would be terrific if you could use the sequencer to play other synths via MIDI. It has midi over usb, it's better than nothing. But ...

Re: Synth for soundscapes ($600 and under)

A very good synth for soundscapes that cost unter $600?

--> Yamaha EX5

A soundscape - atmospheric - ambien monster synth. And the keyboard is also not bad (the same keyboard than the SY-77). The integrated FX unit in the EX5 ist perfect taylored for soundscapes.

Re: Prophet 12

It's one of the synth i would like to test in a music shop...From what i heard on youtube demos (i know, it's not a good base to start a comparison with other synths), the Prophet 12 sounds different than the Prophet 08 or a SE Code. Much more edgy, almost agressive in the medium and high frenquenci...

Re: It's dat time again. (Interfaces)

As far as you are working with a PC based environnement, i would go for the RME Fireface UC. The windows drivers are really good, the preamps are more than useable. The headphone power is the problem on almost every audio interface. At home, i have a SPL 2Control, and i'm using it as a high quality ...
