I have replied and said I’m happy to email you.
Did this ever materialise, or was it a no-show?

So... any idea on how this is produced? I have some synths (dx7, polysix, ppg wave, obxa) and have had a play about without much luck
Standard synth sound with a fairly open filter, up-down arpeggiator set to 16ths or faster, reverb (or delay to taste), hold a nice major chord...

Re: Nik Kershaw synths

The point is you can’t make any inference of the instrument used on the record from a mimed TV appearance, where they will often use any old synth the hire company has on hand to “play” on the stage.

Re: Korg M1 patches

You're not going to get far looking at the raw sysex bytes!

As mentioned above, you need a computer editor that can load and display the files, and let you reorganise the patches and dump them back to your system.

This was super fun last year - do post this over at the Sound On Sound forums, let's see if we can get some regulars over there to come this time... :thumbleft:

Re: does this sound have a name?

It’s trendy these days to manipulate vocal phrases in this (IMO) annoying manner, and that’s what it sounds like to me - pitched up vocal phrase editing.

Re: Korg super drums question

Patterns on the DDM110/220 can be one or two bars long. Each pattern can be one to two bars long, while the resolution can be set to 1/16ths, 1/16 triplets, or 1/32s. Pattern numbers 01-16 have a step capacity of 32, while Patterns 17-32 won't accept more than 16 steps. http://www.muzines.co.uk/arti...

Re: DX 100 operator question

You need to consult the algorithm diagrams for each algorithm to see which operator is doing what. If you're using an algorithm with only one carrier, operator 1, and you turn it off, you'll hear nothing. It sounds like you might be unfamiliar with DX-type FM synthesis - but there are plenty of onli...

Re: creating patch/sample from mp3?

No, you can’t put samples directly into the M1.

There are some ways you can get devices to write samples to PCM cards, but it’s not trivial or cheap.

Re: YAMAHA TG-500 programming issues. Help appreciated

I'm pretty sure the full sysex spec is documented in the manual. I don't have the TG500, but do have the RM50, which is the same module/engine (albeit focused on drums) and I wrote my own sysex editors for it back in the day - the spec is fairly straightforward, from what I remember...

Re: Virtual expansion boards for Roland Jv Series

No, you can’t dump sample data in to a 2080. You can dump new patches in of course, that use the internal PCM waves.

You can do it with an XV5080 though, if you have the sample memory installed.
