Re: Akai MINIAK

According to wikipedia Numark acquired Alesis in 2001 and Akai in 2004.

I wish Bret Victor would chime in about this. He designed the Micron and would probably have some interesting insight into this newest Akai incarnation of his work.

Re: Akai MINIAK

Akai stuff has a reputation for working In the past yes, but this ain't your momma's Akai, (in this scenario your momma is Roger Linn). Lest we forget the faulty MPC1000 pads, and the cripplingly under featured MPC500, 1000, 2500 operating systems, (OS' that were only upgraded by an unofficial thir...

Re: Akai MINIAK

I don't know what you're talking about Stab Frenzy. The specs are identical to the Micron's.

Re: Akai MINIAK

I don't know of any Micron OS problems, but if they add a few new features that are only available to the newest customers I'm pretty sure the old customers will have something to say about it. New features for a new product are always awesome, but if the last generation products are the same under ...

Alesis: Three strikes your out, or third times a charm?

Boy Numark/Akai/Alesis are really on an inspired rebranding tear huh? Alesis Micron = Akai Miniak Alesis Fusion = Akai MPC5000 Alesis SR-18 = Akai XR20 (OK, I'll give this one a pass because of the different sound set) I just can't help but wonder if they aren't entering a weird grey area with futur...

Hey mistertrapdoor, It's me the guy who might be trading with you, (seriously). My friend told me that you'd posted here so I thought I'd post too. This forum won't steer you wrong. The advice is usually super solid. Think about it though, you've already got the Jupiter 8, and if you think I might h...

Here's some crazy Fusion news I stumbled upon a few days ago:

Why in the world would the E3 memory upgrade cost $99 in the US and only $12.54 in Japan? Seriously!

I'd love to see a little box like Elektron's Turbo Midi that analyzes audio signals and generated MIDI CC info. Then we could use the filters on existing synths as envelope followers.

Hey neandrewthal, If you haven't seen this video before you should check it out: http://nkhstudio.com/pages/bassline_mp4.html I'm not saying that the Dark Star will be a classic. I'm just saying the 303 parallels are notable, (awkward interface, cheap resale price, sonic shortcomings). Tell you what...

It's funny that the Dark Star/303 comparison has popped up, because I was just thinking of pointing it out in a previous thread. People selling off Dark Stars for dirt cheap now will probably be crushed later when someone else discovers a glitch unique to it that becomes fashionable. Be prepared to ...
