Re: Kawai K4 or Korg M1?

I’m going to be controversial and say that I simply don’t like the M1. Some of the waveforms are charming, yes, perhaps even iconic (or maybe that’s “overused”) but the synth engine has no thrills, just a basic non resonant filter and amp envelope. The Korg DSS1 Library uses many of the same wavefor...

Re: Roland Boutique

I woke up after a nightmare just now, but there was a really coolthingin the dream. It was a advert for a mini d50 with the pg1000 controls built right in. The v synth can do this, at a high price, but a little d50 with all its partials would be brill. Of course the JDXi is similar but it doesn't lo...

Re: favorite wavetable waveforms?

I really love some of the ones in the ensoniq VFX.

Would you like me to send an mp3 showing off a couple of them?

Re: Buying under-priced vintage synths

Oh give me a break, there is such a thing as a good old fashioned bargain. Again, it is up to the bloody seller to determine the price, not the buyer. If you pay what he asks where is the problem here? Did you steal anything or rob the man? NO. There is nothing wrong with making a profit, if you th...

Re: Buying under-priced vintage synths

Blimey, lots of sociopaths about =D>

I'd offer him double, that's the option where I get some bargain synths and yet can still live with myself. Then I'd use them and not flip them for a bigger price until at least 3-4 years of use later. I'd feel I was honouring the purchase then.

Re: Best Digital Synth to Compliment Analog Setup

Except that the An1x can, with all of it's exotic options like FM etc and tons of shaping tools and digital effects, sound VERY digital. It can do a proper good cold DX or PPG sound. It's so damned flexible that I've even managed to get proper authentic D50 and Melotron sounds out of it. Anyhow, oth...

Re: do any of you jam with other synth guys?

I think when I'm collaborating with people I take a different approach, I don't need to fill fill fill and try and let something that I wouldn't naturally write happen.

That video was a laugh to make :)

Re: Looking for a Synth..(Industrial/

So I largely make stuff in an angry industrial style, and even softer songs can have an edge to them so I thought I'd pitch in if that ok, here's what I use. Synths: Casio FZ1 - A very nice sampler with gnarly hybrid filters, sounds kind of MS20 like, very snappy envelopes, additive synthesis and su...

Re: Bottom Ten Worst Synths of All Time

The TG33 is STUNNING. Rig it up to sound diver and dig in! Crunchy, Gritty 12 bit waves, Beautiful, naive 90s digital chorus, insane distortion. Enough waves and a deep synth engine give you a massive amount of sounds. From 80's schlock horror to beautiful pad sounds that would grace any 90's docume...

Re: Roland SH-2 Oscillators superior to all the other SH ser

The SH5 has an extra, non-cv controllable "magical" Bandpass filter.

This is largely the reason the 5 is more sought after.

Re: Kiwi Technics to make KiwiJX8P

One word: envelopes.

Whilst great for pads, many folk believe that the envelopes of the JX are sluggish. An upgrade could really alter the character and timbral possibilities of this synth.

Plus, more LFOs are always useful!
