Re: Synths and You (the collection of opinions)
1) The synth that made you want to play music: Fender Rhodes (not a synth, but dang that sound) 2) Your first synth: Korg Poly 800 (well first piece of gear: Electribe ER-1 MK-1) 3) The synth that has surprised you most: Kurzweil K2000R / Elektron Monomachine 4) The synth that has disappointed you ...

Re: Beatitude - Ric Ocasek
Hello guys & gals, long time no see! All is good. I just wanted to revive this old thread as I'm wondering what kind of a sequencer Ric Ocasek was using while producing Suicide's A Way of Life album, I found in some book that there was a splash of Mellotron and an E-MU Emulator (with guitar samples ...

Re: The great thread of electronic/synthesizer soundtracks
THIS is one of my all-time favorites, captures that rock+raw hard 80s attitude with a perfect mix of synths and tension :) All the songs might seem strange at first glance, that's mainly because they're arranged to scenes from the film... (so not your regular arrangements here) https://www.youtube.c...

Re: Polysix ensemble effect
you could hunt down the Ensemble board from a Polysix and mod it into a stand-alone unit? Please do not sacrifice a working or repairable Polysix for the FX board! If you really want that, keep the synth: There's a P6 mod to add an input to the FX. Of course not! :o That's pure blasphemy haha I was...

Re: Polysix ensemble effect
Maybe some 90s Korg Digital Effect (rack unit probably) will have a "Ensemble" emulation? I'd say that's the closest (made by Korg) OR you could hunt down the Ensemble board from a Polysix and mod it into a stand-alone unit? I dunno... Ps. Korg effects from a similar period maybe? Like the Korg stom...

Re: EX-8000 parts
I've got a CR-8000 and those switches are unobtainium apparently, so we had to take them apart and actually fix them... So you might have to do that if you can't find replacements, it is possible to fix broken switches

Re: Can you trigger the LinnDrum with Simmons SDS pads?
Yeah, the Linn probably expects level close to a TTL (5V) on its trigger inputs, so direct signal from pickups could be too small. SDS-V had two sets of inputs - one for pads, and another for sequencing. Pad inputs had additdional preamps. Yeah, I guess the input was more for a Trigger (CV/Gate typ...

Re: How do you rate Prince on synths?
The Batman Soundtrack he made is my absolute favorite Prince album, legend has it he made it in two weeks flat. While Danny Elfman was working on the Orchestral Score for months... Hehe He used a LOT of sampling on that album, I'm impressed. It also has some awesome sequenced synths and stuff... I h...

Re: Prophet '08 Qs
You do realize that the P08 is essentially an Evolver with all the digital parts removed...same Curtis filters, same DCOs, etc.? So you can actually answer most of your questions by listening to your Evolver. I read somewhere you could use the LFOs as well if you apply Key Number to them (at the ri...

Prophet '08 Qs
Hi gang, long time no see :) I've been around and about in the synth world, sort of realized the solid power of owning and working with one workhorse synth, arranging with plugins on the computer then "rendering" each track with a synth-of-choice (paired with a good audio interface) Of course, havin...

Re: Yamaha SY22 vs SY35
I've got a SY22, I like the 12 bit sounds but sometimes I would want them to be a bit more quality (especially in the low end, they get too crispy/muddy, BUT the FM is much better in that spectrum) I like it, the keyboard is nice (as a controller) but the front-panel editing is a bit tedious. I reco...

Re: Korg SQ-1 MIDI sync?
One would definitely use it to sequence older CV/Hz gear… Yeah, what I meant is; If the Master MIDI Sequencer/Drum Machine has individual outs you might be able to use one of those to send a click/sound to the Sync In on the SQ-1 You basically just need a steady pulse to feed into the Sync In, somet...
