Re: What are your PC set ups?

For actual rendering, unless you're using iray or vrayRT, there is no GPU-based hardware acceleration. Actual modeling operations, like Booleans, are not GPU-accelerated. (If you are using OpenSubdiv subdivision surfaces, the subdivision portion is indeed GPU accelerated) Uhmm, I get it now. I'm no...

Re: Poll: how do you feel about pirated/cracked DAW software

I don't trust pirated software anymore. Nor should you have ever. It's not so much the cracked software (even though I disagree strongly with pirating as stated previously), but inviting a cracked copy of what-have-you is also inviting all sorts of nefarious behavior. I used tons of soft synth demo...

Re: What are your PC set ups?

But for 3d, you want floating point performance, not integer... If there's hardware acceleration in its 3D software (Like in 3D studio max) then you want a good 3D videocard. What he got actually is perfect for the money spent. Its way better than his old core 2 duo, integer or floating performance...

Re: How important are a synth's presets?

I got an Arturia minilab last month, it comes with 5000 preset sounds, I don't own any of the plugins so I can't do any editing, but for quite a while this thing has put a lot of good -uneditable- sounds over my table.

Re: Headphone Reviews---WTF?

Ah, should have posted here before you ordered and I would have recommended the DT-770s. Fantastic isolation and incredibly clear and flat. Love them. I almost got a DT-990-Pro-250 but then reading the reviews I noticed that it was 250ohms, and the 32ohms premium version is too expensive. My "expen...

Re: What are your PC set ups?

Nistegmos, for music stuff, you're right. I think computers have basically peaked for audio processing. I've never had enough plugins running to bog down my old pc. What I'm mainly looking for is a PC that is fine with audio, but more robust and faster for 3D work. CPU speed is for rendering speeds...

Re: Nintendo DS users: your opinions, please! :)

No I haven't yet, but I can imagine the following way of recording... Instead of recording the whole song to the PC/Mac or tape or whatever, why not recording each track line in a separate wav, and then mix them with a pro software on the computer (or whatever) Lets say your tune is 4 minutes in len...

Re: Nintendo DS users: your opinions, please! :)

I love DS 10, but I don't really like the sound quality of the nintendo DS, its a bit inferior to CD quality, but not too far, just a bit eh, can't define it. But to be honest, surround is still great and it works great even without headphones. Sound on Gameboy Advance was even worse, the SNES was w...

Re: ! >>>>> COMPETITION POLL :: STAYING ALIVE REMIX <<<<<

My vote tied villi with jack, villis tune is plenty of synthesizer-classic sounding, and despite being made in a rush it sounds great, and jack's got a "cool cat" here. result: tie.

Re: ! >>>>> COMPETITION POLL :: STAYING ALIVE REMIX <<<<<

I aint voted yet, couldn't download Villi's tune due to the site performing maintenance, gonna check again later, but as far as it goes, great job everyone. [ MODERATOR'S COMMENT : the link to Villi's tune is now fixed ] I have to say that jack's tune got a highlight here. Anyway, I got to loop them...

Thanks for all the info. I'm an old fart and totally old school when it comes to audio/video production. I have not done much digital audio recording and no digital video editing. I do have a 3CCD Sony VX-2000 I bought nearly 10 years ago when I used to do event videograpghy, but I'd always transfe...

I've learned there arn't any with input mic jacks. Acording to that, I could only recommend recording the audio in the computer while using the camcorder for video only. Clap your fingers so you get a sync point (or use those things they use in the movies to mark the scene number/start). However, i...

If you don't mind the price, canon are good making lenses. But Sony has included Carl Zeiss in many models lately as far as I know. Always check the lens featured in the camera if image quality is of your concern. Panasonic, Sony, JVC and others can't compete with Zeiss, Canon, Fuji, Nikkon as lense...
