Re: Korg DS-8
I much prefer the DS-8 to the Yamaha 4 OP Synths, it does loose some things like several algorithms and fine tuning ratios, but for some reason it doesn't seem a set back. The sound of my DS-8 is thicker and warmer than that of my DX11, even some sounds that bypass the effects are somewhat warmer. O...

Re: Korg DS-8
Yes Nathan i sold the DX5, lack of space made me part with it in the end. What a great Synth though, really happy i had the chance to own one a while.nathanscribe wrote:Did you sell the DX5?

Re: Korg DS-8
Vice versa, i will always be very fond of the DX7; despite the tricky interface. But yes i'm happy i have found a DS-8, it's a very nice sounding machine.

Re: Korg DS-8
It was 20 mins from where i live so i had to have it, always fancied one but never thought i'd find one. After the first few hours of programming i have to say i'm extremely impressed. It is very easy to program, using analogue terminology on it's parameters, and the sound is very thick and complex ...

Korg DS-8
I have just got a serviced Korg DS-8 FM Synth for £150! Was wondering if anyone has one of these and what their opinion is?

For me it was a Novation Nova for £10!
From the same lovely elderly couple i got a Motif 7 for £250, which is a steal.
The best purchases are the unexpected ones

Re: Four Operators
Quite fond of my DX11 but i can see myself selling it soon. My DX5 simply covers all my FM needs and, after 5 years, iv learned 6 op FM and the DX7 very well. Very useful and underrated machines the 4 op synths though, always fancied trying a DX9 as its the only one with 16 voices.

Re: Korg MS-20 Mini
Yes it is the Korg 35 filters that produce the background hiss. I think its part of the sound character, much like the original DX7 the bit of hiss adds some grittiness to the sound.

Build quality is excellent with no wobbly knobs (at least on mine), and the sound is e...

Re: What should each company make next?
Korg should design an affordable analogue poly instead of bringing back another vintage piece. Having said that, i would love to see the PS-3100 brought back. I would sell my soul to own one of those :) Moog should remake the Memorymoog and solve its reliability issues. Roland should stop putting pl...

Re: korg m500 micro preset how much
If Korg are going to bring back another vintage synth, i think the Polysix and Monopoly would be the best candidates
Really glad they are bringing back the MS20, though people shouldn't expect too much of the semi-modular design.

Re: korg m500 micro preset how much
I'm aware some people aren't as enthusiastic as me, but i'm very fond of mine. Its very limited but has a superb MS10 like tone, classic vintage Korg and very usable. It finds its way onto everything i record, the Brass and Synthe 2 presets are SUPERB for leads and solo's. It lacks pitch bend, but t...

Re: Gigging with vintage synths (Juno 60)
I gigged with a Juno-60 for a couple of years, it was by far the most reliable and dependable vintage Analog Polysynth i used on the road. Its really well made and not too heavy to move around, and with it being a simple synth real time tweaks are very easy to make while playing live. On the other h...
