Re: Say I'm Your Number One (Princess, Stock/Aitken/Waterman) - Synths

Just to add to the confusion, they're doing a version of the West End Girls bass line, and that was a P5. But I don't remember a P5 in their rig... which means nothing lol.

I'm thinking they're data files for a Roland R5 I have in a box.
Nice machine! Was always curious about the sequencer in those.

Re: Say I'm Your Number One (Princess, Stock/Aitken/Waterman) - Synths

I have a memory that they had an OB-8 in the rig. And it sounds like two OB patches layered together. But I've no proof!

Re: Kawai Q80EX - File format question

The EX version added Standard MIDI File compatibility. So before buying Geibler, I would try copying the files and changing the file extension of the copies to .syx and see if they can be used in a SysEx loader app like SNoize SysEx librarian or similar. You should be able to load them into a DAW li...

Re: Getting started: Yamaha SY 55 Synthesizer

Just realised that you're using a computer as well. I think you'd find it easier to learn with that! Garageband is excellent to start out on. For learning synthesis, in conjunction with the tutorial I posted, this synth has all the basic clearly laid out: https://tal-software.com/products/tal-noisem...

Re: Getting started: Yamaha SY 55 Synthesizer

It's a hard synth to learn synthesis on if you're a complete beginner. If english is your first language, this would be a good tutorial on the basics of ANY synthesizer like this: http://beausievers.com/synth/synthbasics/ It's not popular so I don't see any iOS software for it. There's a Mac/ Window...

I'm worried that the SSI2144, being based on the SSM2044, being based on the Moog filter, would be too close to my existing Moog.
I never knew it was based on the Moog. It doesn't really sound like it, has its own character that is really very nice. Hence the popularity.

Re: Waldorf Kyra has arrived

Looks very nice! Is it in any way like other Waldorf synths, or is it quite different (I see the bought it off Exodus Digital)

Re: Synths and burnout

I find software mostly better. In the hardware days I would have to multi-track each part on the mono-synth. That got frustrating, because if I decided to change the structure or the sound, I'd have to track everything all over again. If you had a good mix you'd have to leave it on the desk for a fe...

Re: Here are disk images for Emulator 1, Fairlight and Emax

I downloaded the Emulator II Factory Library but EMXP can't seem to recognize them -- they don't even have an extension. Am I supposed to rename the files? Ya probably, I'm not exactly sure. It's been a while since I converted those ones. Maybe check the manual. Thanks for the feedback, I noticed I...

 and thanks. I linked it to a GS post instead. My mess is a consequence of a recent house move. Last room to get done!

Re: Synths and burnout

"high risk of failure," I think this is the key to understanding it. Think about it. Who's deciding if your synth work is a failure? No one but you. Since I realised this a few years ago, I've become much more productive. I judge my work less, and I am less attached to it. I enjoy working on it muc...

Um, how do I get the image to link up? Can't figure it out.

Yes very tidy. Something to aspire to lol, I've just finished an EP and have 30 or so new tracks on the go, plus scanning 15 years of 35mm film. That's my excuse anyway LOL.
