Re: Synthesizers with awesome arpeggiators

That's funny, I thought we had discussed it before! Episodic memory- totally unreliable  They usually go for around €300. I believe there was some connection between the developer of the Cyclone and the Zyklus. The guy told the whole story on the Sound on Sound forum many years ago, but that go...

Re: Synthesizers with awesome arpeggiators

That's interesting about the Bass Bot, though I actually meant the Oberheim Cyclone.

Re: Synthesizers with awesome arpeggiators

Hmm, reading your description again, I think the Cyclone can do this. I might actually sit down with the manual again. That thing is a bear to program, worse than an Ensoniq Mirage. Currently my box is a Drummer, not a Cyclone. Give me some time

Re: VST that most closely replicates Ensoniq EPS sequencing

I haven't used Cubase in a while, but it did allow you to enter the notes off the keyboard. I'd be surprised if that's changed since I used it? The only mouse clicking was for note durations. In Pro Tools, those are assigned to keyboard shortcuts, in addition to entering the pitch from your music ke...

Re: Yamaha CS-10, EG issue

Have you tried this:

Also, the switches get dirty. Caig Deoxit will solve that. You can try spray in from the front panel. Failing that, IIRC you will have to completely dismantle it to access the back of the switch.

Re: Korg T1 Factory Disk Image

You have a computer obviously, so I think the easiest thing to do is get a USB MIDI cable. Stick with branded ones like Alesis or Roland. The cheaper ones use a buffer that's too small to handle SysEx messages.

Re: Balanced outputs - how to find out?

There doesn't appear to be any circuitry in the audio path apart from the transformer (in the ART there's a capacitor to ground for the output side, but that's an LPF and not in the audio path as such, I think?). They both seem to have a basically flat response up to 30kHz or so. So maybe you're hea...

Re: Korg Poly 800 Missing resistor

Hmm, looks like a kludge to fix a ground loop maybe? Unless you have a buzz coming from your Poly 800, you don't need it, is my guess.

Re: Yamaha CS-15 drone problem. Repair advice wanted

There are two "Initial Level" dials, one in each VCA section. Are they turned up? Either one? That makes it drone. Assuming it's not actually broken. So just turn them both down. It is a common complaint with the Yamahas.

Re: Balanced outputs - how to find out?

Which is kinda sad given that most of these devices were expensive high-quality studio equipment used by professionals. I think it can be argued that it is a sensible design decision. Balancing does not improve signal quality (as some people seem to think) it just greatly reduces the possibility of...

Re: Balanced outputs - how to find out?

If it doesn't say, then it's unbal. That's the most common, as it saves money and most users don't need bal. I can confirm from experience that the D50, all of the Yamahas (but I don't know the CS6R) and the K4 are unbalanced line level. Don't the manuals show the TS connection for the jack in the s...
