Re: Philips Philicorda GM751 / GM752 capacitors / manual?

There should be something written on those? But they don't look broken. Are there specific ones that you think are broken? It would be unwise to try to replace all of them. What exactly is wrong with the instrument?

Why can't you read the values off them? Are they completely destroyed?

Re: Yamaha QX5 track bouncing

No idea, but you're very courageous to be working with this machine. The second most awful music device I ever worked with. Number one was another Yamaha product- the TX16W with Yamaha's original awful OS.

Re: uh oh imm gasing!!!!

1. NI Komplete. Buy direct from NI. Maybe wait for the next sale.
2. Arturia V Collection. Not sure if you've missed the sale.

Alternatively, just use Logic Pro. It comes with a fantastic package of synths and effects.

Re: Oberheim OB-8?

Sounds like preset A5 "Accelerating Rotary Organ" with the accelerating frozen at the start. Sounds like this preset uses unison mode for extra depth. http://www.synthmania.com/ob-8.htm A Casio CZ can get very close, it's the king of organ synths, you'll hear some very close ones in the factory pres...

Re: Korg DSS-1 Aftertouch problem

Like the JX (and the Akai MX-1000, and probably a lot of other keyboards as well) it's far more likely that the sensor strip has corroded. You can clean the corrosion off with isopropyl if you're prepared to remove the felt cover. I did that with my MX-1000 and got about 6 years out of it before it ...

Re: Newbie wants to learn how to use a software synth...which would be best?

I am going to start by studying the SoundonSound courses that you referenced. If I may share my experience of teaching this stuff on a first year degree course- the SOS series is very detailed. A beginner would find it frustrating. I wouldn't recommend starting with that. I use an edited version of...

Re: Best acoustic panels for small room?

DIY mebrane absorbers. If the room really is 12 feet x 12 feet then you will have a double standing wave at 85Hz: so a low A will sound really boomy. Depending on what the room is made with, you cannot really fix that with any kind of absorber. You can reduce it somewhat, with a lot of maths and a l...

Re: Newbie wants to learn how to use a software synth...which would be best?

If you haven't used a synthesizer before, you'll need to learn the basics. That P8 looks fully featured. I use TAL Noise Maker to teach the basics. It's the best laid out free VST available, and the manual is very clear and easy to follow. For actually synthesizing guitar, you're kinda stuck. It's n...

Cool! I'm totally procrastinating about that. What bass do you play? I treated myself to a Hofner violin bass a few years ago.

Re: MININOVA NOVATION Keyboard problem

Most likely the rubber strip containing the contacts (under the keys) got moved when you disassembled it. It is probably off-centre, or even dusty. Another possibility: Post a pic of the "tape". If it's the delicate type of ribbon connector, it's easy to damage one of the strips. That can be repaire...

Re: Say I'm Your Number One (Princess, Stock/Aitken/Waterman) - Synths

Just to add to the confusion, they're doing a version of the West End Girls bass line, and that was a P5. But I don't remember a P5 in their rig... which means nothing lol.
