Re: Over 1000 Vintage Synthesizers in one room (Swiss Museum of Electronic Music)

I would not necessarily call this a museum, this is a warehouse full of stuff in various states of disrepair. Whereas in a museum, none of it would be functional and we would not be allowed to use any of it. Is your glass half full or half empty? Clearly SOME of it works, as shown in the video. One...

Re: Kawai K4 or Korg M1?

So I think we're all in agreement: a hardware M1 compares poorly to the plugin, or an O1/W, or a K4, or a DSS-1?

Production is great and choir preset on this one stands perfectly in the mix. Nice job!
Hey, thanks! Enjoy the Kawai :)

you can get a usb midi cable for about $10
You can, but they won't work for editing. All the cheap ones have too small a buffer size for SysEx. Stick to a branded USB MIDI cable from Alesis, M-Audio, Roland, Cakewalk etc.

Re: Kawai K4 or Korg M1?

The M1 VST is very very close, although it is cleaner sounding because it does not emulate the DAC. Ideally you want both, right? So keep the plugin and buy a K4, unless the DAC thing is an issue for you. Alternatively, if you just want the nice presets and you have Kontakt, this is an option: http:...

These discs are hard to find and they shouldn't be! I especially object to people making money out of these.
Highly agree.

Valiant attempt, sir! But I believe you copy/pasted a truncated link :(
OK, fixed it!

Here are disk images for Emulator 1, Fairlight and Emax

I shared these on eiiiforum, but thought it might reach more people here. These discs are hard to find and they shouldn't be! I especially object to people making money out of these. So with HFE and these disc images will re-awaken your Emulator 1. It's fun to convert these in EMXP for use in a mode...

Re: Oberheim Matrix-6 -- No display, no sound but PS seems to be fine

Hard to tell from your description what the trafo behaviour is, but it would not be unusual for the trafo outputs to be higher than the voltage regulator output. That's what a voltage regulator is for. As you say, it's less likely that the trafo is at fault than the caps and/ or the silicon in the P...

Great, OP8 definitely has the preset so.

That's a great interview with Nik, he's a funny guy :)

Re: Yamaha PSS-480/580/680 firmware?

Isn't this the same engine as a 4 op FM synth? Surely a TX81Z can do all the same sounds? Add Chipcrusher from Plogue and there you go, a programmable PSS with no MIDI delay?

Never heard a thing. Quelle surprise.

Hey, sent you some stuff on Slack did you see it?

Re: Nik Kershaw synths

I would be trying anything that has dual variable pulse waves (which is a lot of stuff). OPXa is an excellent model, so I'm sure it will work there, and it probably already has that preset anyway! For this kind of sound, an OBX is not hugely different from an OBXa. U-He Diva would be another one to ...

Re: Nik Kershaw synths

Any suggestions how to make a similar sound with ob-xa, juno or prophet vsts? I'm pretty sure it's a preset on the OBX-a, so sonicprojects OPX will have it. I'm not sure it's possible to get it precisely on a Juno or a Prophet. I never tried. I suspect it's two pulses an octave apart and slightly d...

Re: Nik Kershaw synths

The point is you can’t make any inference of the instrument used on the record from a mimed TV appearance, where they will often use any old synth the hire company has on hand to “play” on the stage. Exactly. Sorry it wasn't meant as a random criticism, or to pedantic. I thought that would've been ...
