It does sound like one of the classic DX basses, but with more grit. No dynamics, and the attack changes with pitch. I think the DX has been sampled. Possibly into the Ensoniq Mirage, which Jam & Lewis were apparently big fans of. Prophet VS can do this sort of thing too.
