Re: What synth used to make these acid house stabs?
Gawd I hate the Hoover sound. :x But thanks for taking me down a memory lane (where I often opt to take a detour). ;) This isn't the hover sound though, the hover sound is http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hoover_sound Preset's called "Igor Circus" on the SR-JV80-11 expansion but of course it's probably...

I think the earliest use of that sound was Black Riot – A Day In The Life (Todd Terry).

Earliest I could trace anyway.

Open source / freeware PC sequencer that can run VSTs?
I am looking for an Open Source or free sequencer that can run VSTs.
It doesn't need to be anything too advanced, I'd like to use it in a small portable laptop for some fun.
I already have Polyiblit as a freeware VSTI.
A free sampler / drum machine VSTI would be good as well.
Thanks!

Re: first thing you do when getting a new synth.
Set it up, plug it in. Check the function of each button and key. Check overall operation of synth. Vacum the outside of it. Open it up and vacum the inside of it. Take a picture. Measure the PSU, make sure it is ok. Remove keybed. Remove keys. Wash keys in warm water, let dry. Inspect keybed for we...

Re: Analogue Solutions Europa
Oh yeh, and 'Europa' is already the name of a synth music based item.

Re: Analogue Solutions Europa
Why is the keyboard layout at 90 degrees? Thats weird. Ok, I would have understood it if there was a matrix of LEDs for each 16th, but with only one row of LEDs, it doesn't make any sense.

Re: Help me choose... Pro One, Odyssey, or Source?
If it is mainly for bass and toughness - Pro One. Best synth Dave ever made. Odysseys not as tough but quite funky. Usually more expensive for some reason, maybe build quality (but sliders are problematic) and (for whiteface) geek factor. Source is a nice synth, but a bit brassy, I'd even say a Moog...

Re: Midibox MB-808 Last Orders?
It comes with the 'difficult' parts.
One or two orders for the rest and you'll be rocking, parts list will be available of course.
Case is planned for later this year.

Re: Jupiter 6 Europa?
There is no Europa 'editor software' or any other external software like that. The only external software for Europa is the Europa operating system update program. You use this to update the operating system, which is a rare to non-existent event. If you have an operating system that doesn't work wi...

Re: Will the Linn drum ll be released?
I didn't have any faith that the synthesis part of the project would be any good anyway. Proper drum synthesis is not 1 or 2 oscillators running through a filter and envelope, like a keyboard synth, it needs totally different circuits for each sound to make a proper analog drum synth, and that is so...

Re: Wet clothes and 808
Pure water isn't a problem. Problem is, water is rarely pure. It will contain salts etc, especially from cleaning. These will attack the metal in your 808 etc, and cause oxidisation which will degrade and finally break the machine. Especially vulnerable are internal circuit connections, external jac...

Re: New LinnDrum II Design
Mistakes;
1) Announcing the design before it was even prototyped
2) Design-by-committee
3) Trying to please everyone
4) Dave Smith hasn't designed analogue drum synthesizer circuits before
Boom, Bap, Plonk.
