Re: prophet 5 , revisions and year ?

Yes, by a large margin - the vast majority of tracks you hear Prophets on are rev 3's. People love to praddle on about how ameeezing rev 2's are and how inferior rev 3's are, but I've played both (and own a rev 3) and the difference isn't that huge.

Re: E-MU EMULATOR II+ Work Log

Hey Azone...

I had the good fortune to acquire a showroom mint Emulator II+HD last year (with original box!). I'd gladly take one of those EMuSer PCB's off your hands (for whatever you deem fair $$$) if you're interested.

Best,

Mitchell

Re: Which keyboard is this in Mr Mister 1985 setup?

A little MKB-300 info... I used these as my main live controllers for years. The cool part is they have a flat top, which was perfect for Macbook on left (I'm all MainStage) and a skinny four-oct controller on the right (Novation Xio in my case). They have a unique, "clacky" semi-weighted keyboard w...

Re: VP-330 Alternative?

I've owned both the VP-330 and SVC-350 (and plenty of hardware and software vocoders). IMO, the answer is that nothing sounds as good as a real-deal analog vocoder. There ARE other vocoders that sound as good as (or possibly better) than the vintage Rolands, but nothing cheaper (vintage Synton, Senn...

Re: ElectroComp EML-101 volt/octave conversion mod

Easy solution (which I know isn't for everyone)... use Silent Way. AFAIK, it wouldn't care how wacky the synths scaling is.

Re: Slight buyer's remorse on my Jupiter 6...

I'm a little late on this, but I owned a JP-6 for a few years (purchased back when you could get them for $800 all day long), and I felt the same way.I liked the features and how it looked, but I never really loved how it sounded; it always was a little squeaky clean and lacked ballsiness. Even in s...

Re: Pro One sales advice

Sometime around 1992, I bought a Pro-One for $30 (seriously!). It was perfect except for a broken fuse holder. Factoring for inflation, I'll give you $55 for yours.

(I ended up selling it to a friend for $200 who wouldn't leave me alone. On a positive, you could say I made a 600% profit!)

Re: Sequential T8 Monster Auction Excitement

The DSI stuff is not bad but, compared with a T8, it's toys. No proper-length keyboard (five octaves maximum), tiny controls, crammed control panel, a somewhat too precise sound (for me, anyway). Stephen Respectfully, I gotta disagree. The T8 certainly is beautiful and the keyboard itself is super ...

Re: Prophet 5 3.2 Feedback for mod

Not to get too snooty about it, but the correct metaphor might be "adding a slant-nose/whail tail/mega-flared fender kit" to the Porsche! :D

(a lot of nice 70s 911's used to get wrecked this way)

Re: How to play 808 Chromatically from Analog synth

I love keepin' it real and analog, but when it comes down to it, we're kind of splitting hairs here. Unless you're recording to analog tape (which I doubt anyone on this board is), you're gonna end up recording it to a DAW anyway. And hard drives don't care whether you call it "sampling" or "recordi...

Re: I'd love a Roland Boutiuqe Vocoder Plus reissue...

I too would love to see a modern Roland vocoder, but I've owned both the VP-330 and the SVC-350, and I've tried every digital/modeling vocoder I could get my hands on over the years, and I've never heard an emulator get close to the sound of the original Roland analog vocoders. I suspect it's becaus...

Re: Looking for used (maybe vintage) line mixer recommendati

I remember the old Roland M-series rack mixers being really noisy (maybe this was an isolated incident). I very strongly recommend the Mackie LM-3204. Not the cheapest thing out there, but it has 16 stereo inputs, four sends, two standalone mic pres (in the sense that they're not hardwired to any of...

Re: Sequential Circuits Prophet-5 rev 2 expectations

I too am happy with the level of grief happiness my rev 3.2 gives me. I played a rev 2 and a rev 3 last weekend - they were on top of each other, so I matched sounds, went back and forth, etc. The filter certainly is a little different, and the rev2 oscillators had a wee bit more "warble" in the way...

Re: Korg Might Be Up To Something.

Ha ha ha, wow. Okay, if you guys are going to bash the MS-20 Mini, I'm going to have to ask you to have played an original MS-20. Yeah, it was bigger, but the knobs were total bullshit... loose and crappy. The Mini knobs may be small and of mediocre quality, but at least they have some resistance a...

Re: Sascha / KMFDM's Personal Roland SH-101 *Holy Grail*

If you've never been a fan of industrial music, then you could easily not know who KMFDM is, but they are on the short list of the classic industrial bands that peaked in the mid-90s. Luckily though, Google works for people who aren't industrial music fans as well...
