The only way to really know if a mic will work for you is to try it out. Different mics sound good on different people depending on the timbre or their voice, how loud they sing, etc. This makes "a good mic" somewhat relative. When I got into recording, I wanted to get a nice condenser mic that woul...

The Copperphone one comes to mind, but it's $250. http://www.placidaudio.com If it were me, I'd buy some shitty vintage mics on eBay for $20 a piece rather than spending $200 on the same sound. For recordings, I use this a lot... it sounds great and it's FREE! http://www.izotope.com/products/audio/v...

When I was in the market for a Pro-One, I found one on eBay that had some "issues." I got it for about $300 and sent it to Kurt at kurtsamps.com to get it serviced. The service was relatively expensive ($250) but he did a really good job and I ended up getting a well-working Pro-One for $550. That w...

Re: I thought headphones were better...
Speaking of stereo speakers, is it true they all have some kind of built in ('untweakable') sound enhancer, unlike monitors? Yes, more or less. Stereo speakers and monitors have different applications and, therefor, different characteristics. For lack of a better term, the "goal" of stereo speakers...

I, too, have never listened to Zaireeka that "real" way. I did, however, dump all four CDs into my DAW and made my own version. Of course, the timeclocks don't drift, but it's cool nonetheless. you mean like 2 cd's that interact with each other? tribes of neurot/neurosis did this...really cool. Yeah...

When I'm mixing, the first thing that I do is to pan instruments that occupy the same frequency range to avoid masking. From then on, I just experiment until the mix sounds as interesting as possible. I'm a big fan of the drastic panning that on late 60s Britpop records... listening to a song like "...
