Re: Beatitude - Ric Ocasek
I have Greg Hawkes solo lp "Niagara Falls". I remember liking it it, but haven't listened to it in awhile. I enjoy Ocasek's Beatitude also, but both pale in comparison to the songs they did with The Cars.

Ensoniq EPS16 Plus $60
I just copped an Ensoniq EPS16 Plus for $60. This must be synth year for me! My Solaris arrived a couple weeks ago and I got a free Casio CZ3000. The EPS will be fun for quick and easy sampling & editing. I found working with an ASR10 quite inspiring when I had one. For the price The EPS16 can't be ...

Re: Steely Dan + Prophet-5 = true?
For starters, the harmonica solo on 'Hey Nineteen' was a Prophet 5.

Rescued a Casio CZ3000
Someone at my band rehearsal space tossed out a Casio CZ3000. It has a half broken key and is missing a hand full of screws. I plugged it in and powered up! It's 100% functional minus the broken key. There are some fun sounds in this thing! There's an on board chorus and ring mod. ! can make some co...

Re: a teenage boy's perspective on vintage synthesizers
I also prefer pre-Hagar Van Halen. Ed was toying with the Minimoog as early as 1981. He played a Wurlitzer 200a through a Marshall on "And The Cradle Will Rock" in 1980. He said in an interview he went through a few P5's that all started smoking, so he decided on an OBXa. They must have been rev.1 P...

Re: John Bowen Solaris mega synth my goodness
Haven't ever tried the Neuron. I have Solaris on pre-order and got to spend some quality with it and John Bowen. Solaris is capable of loading samples and doing it's fair share of mangling. I can't wait! The sound quality blows away any kind of VA. It's much more than that!

Re: The Kurzweil K2000 sounding warmer than later K-workstat
I have to say yes. I used to have a K2661 and found it sounded too clean for my tastes. I found a K2vx for such a great price I couldn't pass it up. I found that it sounds warmer and darker than the K2661. I cannot speak on the other models that I've never owned.

It must be my loss, because I couldn't make my Jupiter 8 sound like this no matter how hard I tried!

I agree with Marc. My Clavinet C sounds nothing like a Dx7 patch.
