Re: Moog One

Not only the Memorymoog but the Jupiter 8 and all other big polys as well are now officially overpriced. If I had the cash to spend I´d go for the One and wouldn´t think twice. Eheh how about that for a slogan? GO FOR THE ONE! Won't affect the price of a Jupiter 8 (and - they're priced what the mar...

Re: Tonewise upgrading the SY77 to SY99 specs

Hi Mooger5 - If you can bring these tests to a firm conclusion and can confidently say that a particular modification will affect an improvement - verified by tests - and can then provide a detailed description of the procedure, parts list, etc - then I would be in a position consider implementing i...

Re: MOTU Midi Time Piece II - uses??

It was a lot more desirable in the past because it can handle all kinds of timing codes (SMPTE and the like) - so in the 90's when it was in its hay-day it could syncoronise MIDI synthesizers, early DAWs with primarily MIDI recording, ADAT Digital Tape machines and so on to Video Tape Recorders tran...

Re: Synths and You (the collection of opinions)

1) The synth that made you want to play music: - (it was a Piano :-) ). 2) Your first synth: Clef Microsynth 3) The synth that has surprised you most: JD800 (It's a "Vangelis" machine - still :-) ). 4) The synth that has disappointed you most: Nord Lead 2 (It really does sound great, but it's so blo...

Re: Tonewise upgrading the SY77 to SY99 specs

Hi Mooger55, I wonder if you could sum up / summaries where you're at with this project, and whether the mod you propose could be implemented with certainty on SY77s to slightly improve their fidelity? As it happens, I have 4 SY77s and 2 TG77s and access to one or two engineers who could comfortably...

Re: Tonewise upgrading the SY77 to SY99 specs

Thanks for the very interesting post. Deeper than my knowledge of electronics goes; but I own multiple SY77s and 99s; and know of several exquisite service engineers here in Ireland so will read your posts over a few times to gain clarity on what you've done, and download the schematics with a view ...

Thanks for the VPROM tip - looks great and just bought it :-)

Still have to dive into to, but it looks like a lot of care went into making it.

Cheers!
Kevin.

Re: MOTU Midi Time Piece II - uses??

I have one USB one and one serial one (bought cheap last year) but I have been so far unsuccessful in trying to find a cable to network the two. they need an old Apple-talk cable - and I simply can't find one, even on ebay. If anyone knows a source for the correct cable to network the two, I'd be ve...

Best AU Plugin emulation of LinnDrum?

Anyone have any ideas on the best AU plugin based LinnDrum emulation - best quality samples, most complete sample set, most accurate tuning and sample pitch shifting as with the original; ...? (looking to use any such emulation in Logic Pro so iOS or PC based emulations not of use in this instance)....

Re: Analogue Polyphonic Synth Recommendations

I'm going to partly disagree with my learned colleague here. :D It's absolutely true that you have to get the overall tone of the instrument. Without that, you'll never gel with it. But, the features are important too, as they dictate what sounds you can squeeze out of it. I have a DSI Rev2. It's a...

Re: Yamaha CS-40M - Factory Patches?

Did you ever manage to acquire these? I'm after them too? I put out a search every few years - and even talked to Yamaha-Kemble CS range expert Dusty Miller 5-6 years ago on it but even he couldn't locate them in house. Am about to put out a request again on synth groups on Facebook, and will let yo...

Re: moog grandmother

At first it looked quirky - but after watching the video on it's design and construction, it quickly grows on you - and - it sounds great, looks really well built and is more substantial that it first appears. And agree - the price is not bad at all. At the centre of it all - I just love the way Moo...

Re: My YAMAHA SY77 repair

Agree with madtheory - brilliant blog. As an SY77 owner I've bookmarked it for future reference. Good luck with the rest of the repair (the diskette rubber band replacement requires a steady hand - but works a treat once done :-) ) .
