i think using the evolver's sequencer to make textures/odd bassline type things is really gratifying as the first sounds to get down over some drums. even if it's just some weird atonal noisy bit that doesn't fit in the finished song, it gets some s**t going. i like it better than dropping in some l...

wretch machine (tube driven synth) i think hot chip has a generally very VA sound, plasticky and smooth. I think they have an sh-101 and you can hear the difference between the microkorg and the analog machines clear as day, but it doesn't seem to matter much. I think the key is that they play all t...

yeah that bass on both tracks is so completely an electric bass that using a synth to do the line would be a bit tacky... it would have a very different vibe, even if you were exhaustive about the sound design. a vibe like you can't play the bass guitar, which could actually be useful in some scenar...

Oh ,. and Justice is a lunchable version of French house... C+ to the max. You're music can only be as good as the substance... production only matters so much... Can you define substance? I feel like production could matter more to some people, less to others. Maybe it should matter more to some p...

I have never really needed to use the ms2000 to make exeptionally analog sounds. I think it's just a musical workhorse. I've used it for basslines, leads, arp things and crazy modulations, and it has a really specific sound that seems to blend just fine with other instruments. I think of many analog...

synth buy suggestions-poly
My friend is looking for an analog polysynth in the $500-ish range. Any suggestions? Preferably not a Juno-106 or an AX-60, as we have access to these if needed to some degree. I've been racking my brain for a while and am out of ideas. Thanks in advance!

I really think using any unnecessary cables or mixer, etc. needlessly colors the sound (although that may be what you're going for, especially as most cheap mixer EQ's don't have a bypass (much less true bypass) and sound thin and unmusical at best. (Having tried it both ways with my 70's Tapco boar...

new track- electro pop with ambient middle
I hope you guys enjoy. It's called sohcahtoa, and it's on this myspace for my band Kosovo. Lots of evolver for the bass and fx type sounds, and the drums are a lot of samples from different drum machines. I think the rest is live instruments (or samples derived from them). thanks a lot! http://www.m...

the first synth i played was my friend's juno-60. i couldn't understand what anything did (except the arp) and it seemed so overwhelming but I lost several days of my life trying to understand. but as far as synth music it had to be like kraftwerk and some space invader stuff, plus video game music ...
