Re: Your latest musical purchase
Since last here: I got a Matrix 12 and a Chroma again, and I traded my Yamaha CS70m and sold off my Modal 002. I also found a Yamaha CS20m in a dumpster. So that's cool.

Re: CS 80
In Montreal, the chap to get ahold of is Nicolas Ramcur, if he's willing to take it on; he's restored two CS80s from the ground up, so he's aware of the awfulness of the job, including one where a large portion of the machine had been completely buggered up and then it sat in a barn for two decades....

Re: Yamaha CS 80
My CS80 is in great shape technically, and with one minor cosmetic defect (damage to the outer right wood, which somebody tried to repair with a wood screw. I need to fix that one of these days.) I have seen ones in worse condition than mind, and without any of the accessories (I have a lid, wheels ...

Re: Keyboard Stands
For the edification of all: the winner is the Onstage KS-3765-EJ. I put the CS80 on the bottom, and presently a Solaris on the top, and it seems to have held up so far. (It's rated for 400 lbs, so you could probably put a Novachord on it.)

Re: Ridiculous eBay 'Buy-it-now' and starting bids.
I wonder if this is one of those weird things where a certain bit of oddball gear ends up being fetishized by a specific music scene. There was a weird thing a couple of years ago where a certain style of Mexican pop music ended up driving up the price of some really, REALLY weird synthesizers by a ...

Re: Shipping Boxes for Keyboards
I've taken to building them out of a combination of scrappy pine and plywood. It's usually about $100 at Home Depot to build a crate (Canadian), and about 4-6 hours with the table saw and drill.

Re: Keyboard Stands
I mean, I *can* weld something; alternately, I can get something like a mitre saw stand or other construction equipment and adapt that to fit the purpose. I would also be interested to hear from people who have done things like that.

Keyboard Stands
I need a keyboard stand that can hold the weight of my CS80. I would *like* a keyboard stand where I can mount something sizeable yet more modern overtop of the CS80 as a second keyboard (say, the Solaris or something). Right now I'm using a Broder industrial shelving unit from IKEA, but the damn th...

Speaking of CS80 inflation: http://www.ebay.ca/itm/A-Working-Yamaha-CS80-Analog-Synthesizer-/181855940850?hash=item2a577570f2 "A working Yamaha CS80 analog synthesizer" (4 dead voice cards, broken ribbon controller, uncalibrated, missing the support screws to hold the thing together so it probably w...

Re: Best Digital Synth to Compliment Analog Setup
I've been kind of puzzling over this myself. At this point my shortlist is the Yamaha FS1R and a DK Synergy (if I can find one with the Kaypro, which seems to be the challenge).

Re: Emulator II+ : What to keep an eye on?
One of these was being sold on reverb.com recently for $1900 or so. I think it was overpriced at that.
Shipping from Germany is probably a nuisance, but I wouldn't mind one. PM me if you're looking for a buyer.
