Re: the power of nostalgia, impulsive/compulsive, GAS, etc
I am a nostalgia freak, especially for 80s stuff. Hopefully you buy synths not on who used them but for the sounds they make. I've only bought when the price is good, it has the sound I'm after, and it just so happens to be an amazing synth. When all these things intersect you deserve the synth and ...

Re: Roland JX-8P sound problem
There is something wrong with your JX for sure. I have one (with the programer) and it sounds great. The good news is the PG800 is worth more than the synth and it may be easier to just locate another cheap 8P than to pay for chips and tech work. Sure, some of the presets are a bit thin but you shou...

Re: review of repair work - Three Wave Music
Sam/Three Wave repaired my OB-Xa a few years back. I chose Sam because I was thoroughly unimpressed with the work the "Analog Lab" did on my Space Echo. In a city where you can get anything at all hours of the night, it is very hard to find a good, reliable synth tech that won't charge you an arm an...

Re: Bottom Ten Worst Synths of All Time
Argh...a controversial thread she be! Happened to me once. It's dust/dirt in the encoder. A quick spray with circuit board cleaner (about £5) and you're good to go. You must have been lucky, mine spent 2 weeks at home and 4 months in the shop waiting for new encoders. It was right when Novation was ...

Re: Bottom Ten Worst Synths of All Time
No mention of Red Sound, Dark Star yet? I remember this thing being universally hated right from the start for several reasons. A couple other honorable mentions: Yamaha SU200 Sampler: Wow, almost completely unusable and frustrating. Novation KS4: Had promise but a nasty encoder issue made it imposs...

Re: Mode Machines SID
Oh yeah it was Technology Transplant, my bad. But still, if this box is just a SID software emulation with a xOxBox interface then what's the point? That would be the same as a xOxBox but with 303 software inside it.

Re: Mode Machines SID
Yeah, I was stoked about the simple/fun interface of this unit but my main question was "does it have a real SID chip in it?" I haven't heard/read that it actually does and if it did, I'm sure the company would be talking that up a lot. Also, correct me if I'm wrong but wasn't Mode Machines catching...

Re: Casiotone Love?
Yeah I love Casios so much I wrote a song about it!
Go here (iTunes):
https://itunes.apple.com/us/album/playe ... mpt=uo%3D4
It's called "THE GREAT CASIO UPRISING".
I used my CZ-101 and obviously my VL-Tone to make a lot of it.
Hope you like it.

Re: Hello! Newb here, looking for some suggestions from pro
A few words of wisdom for someone just starting out: DAWs like Logic and Pro Tools are deep, complex programs that take weeks to get comfortable with and years to master, so stick with it, experiment, join forums and read the manual like your bible. It's important to make sure you have your setup co...

Re: Collecting, eBay and Synth Economics
I'm certainly reliving my childhood through the synths I have "collected" over the years. They just so happen to be some of the greats. In the back of mind I needed to have the "Tom Sawyer" sound, or the lead from "Just what I needed", or the drums from "Da, Da, Da", or the trumpets from "Final Coun...

Re: Chopping up the classics
Whenever I think of "chopped classics" I think of this video for "Love is Alive" by Gary Wright. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wCc7XJRDD74 Wait what's that in the opening shot? A white Mini Moog keyboard chopped off the main board and being played like a keytar? But who is that playing it? Yeah, St...

Re: Jupiter 6 Voice Layering
Congrats on the 6. It's as loved as it is hated. Currently you can't layer sounds, only split the keyboard. I don't know much about the new Europa but I have the old one and it's amazing. Yes, removing a board from your synth and shipping it off can be scary but it's well worth it. Best/weirdest Eur...
