Re: JX-8P - Fixed one problem & created another!

Checked out the pitch bend on my Korg tuner, that reads down to cents, and it does seem to be centering properly. When I bend the pitch wheel up though, it does jump a bit in pitch before smoothing out for the rest of the throw, so contact cleaner sounds like a good idea, even if it doesn't help the...

Re: JX-8P - Fixed one problem & created another!

Thanks mangros! The out-of-tune-ness stopped once I went into Unison detune and changed it. Some voodoo must have gone on when I did the re-soldering, because the Unison detuning sounded baaaaaaaad before. Like more that +/- 50 cents bad. Funny thing is when I called up the Unison detune menu, it sh...

JX-8P - Fixed one problem & created another!

:::Original problem::: My JX-8P would automatically shut itself off, or sometimes freeze up after anywhere from a few minutes to maybe 15 minutes or so of being powered up. :::Solution to that problem::: I read on the Yahoo JX group about this and it was suggested that components on the power supply...

Re: unfinished tracks.... what a waste!

Save them for when you're uninspired. You may be working on a track and have no good ideas for whatever the next section should be. Have a listen to some of your old work and see if you can't lift a section and make it work in your current track. That, or sometimes out of nowhere you'll come up with...

Re: JX-8P last firmware version?

That's easier on the BCR, isn't it? You know, I just checked the PC-1600x manual and it has a sysex learn mode that I didn't even know about! Hmm, didn't have to hunt down a template after all. So far 3.1 is the latest firmware version. Anyone with a "numbers only buttons" JX-8P have something highe...

Re: JX-8P last firmware version?

You'll need a template specifically for the JX-8P, I suspect. At least that's the way it works with The Peavey PC-1600x controller that I use for my Alpha Juno 2. Do a google for JX-8P bcr200 template, or maybe Pro5 can point you in the right direction. Should be fairly plug-and-play once you've got...

Re: JX-8P last firmware version?

Cool. Thanks Pro5. I see in your gear list that your JX-3P and JX-8P have some sort of MidiMod.
Now I know about this http://organix.inque.org/index.php?page=jx-3p-upgrade
mod for the 3P, but what mod is in your 8P?

Re: JX-8P last firmware version?

Thanks blavatsky! BTW, is yours an earlier (patch names on buttons) or later (only numbers on buttons) model?

Anyone with a later firmware version out there??

JX-8P last firmware version?

I powered on my JX-8P while holding down the 1 "Piano 1" button, which seems to bring up the firmware version and date. Mine is an earlier JX-8P (patch names on buttons) and reads "2.1 04/84". I've searched the interweb for any info on JX-8P firmware versions and what the bug fixes and/or feature en...

Re: Synth used by Jan Hammer on "Blue Wind"?

It's funny that you mention the MXR flanger, Micke. I was trying to duplicate the sound on the Micron last night, and the 'super phaser' effect was not really getting it so I tried all the others, and the 'thru-0 flanger' was the closest (although not great). I wouldn't have thought flanger at first...

Re: Synth used by Jan Hammer on "Blue Wind"?

Thanks for the example and the suggestions, Hair. So phaser on a saw wave seems to be the ticket. I've tried my Phase 90 (on a saw patch on my JU-2) but I think there's something wrong with it, because it goes from not swirly enough to too swirly (depth-wise) with no in between ground on the knob. M...

Re: Synth used by Jan Hammer on "Blue Wind"?

Sounds like my best bet to recreate this with what I've got is with the Micron - maybe 2 OSCs (pulse? sawtooth?) slightly detuned with some PWM and one of the flangers in the Micron... Whaddaya think??
