Well I received and installed the chips from S.E. and all is now well. :) All the functions seem to work as they should and saving/loading patches is now flawless. What a great sounding synth! Very warm and big sounding. A majority of the factory presets seem to be rap/r&b oriented and don't do the ...

I had the same experience when I bought the Virus upon its initial release. I'd read glowing magazine reviews (having any faith in them was my first major ignorant mistake) and special-ordered one from my local music store, as they were not stocked by any retailers in my area (and therefore I could ...

Just got off the phone with Greg at Studio Electronics. According to the symptoms I've described to him, he believes that there may be a defective RAM chip in the ATC-X. He's express mailing some replacement chips out to me today and said he'd email me a tracking number. Greg also walked me through ...

Well, the problems on my ATC-Xi have gone from bad to much, much worse. At this point the unit neither receives MIDI on any channels nor does it emit any sound!!! --When I power the ATC-Xi on and attempt to set the MIDI channel, the LED says that it's on channel 75! My only options are channel 1 or ...

Villi wrote:Are you sure you can overwrite the factory patches?
Yes, actually you have to - I confirmed that with Greg St. Regis (designer of the ATC) when I called S.E. last week. There are 512 preset patches in total and you must overwrite them in order to store your own. It just won't allow me to. :(

OK - So the brand new ATC-Xi (fully loaded Quad) that I just purchased directly from Studio Electronics (that cost me over $1,700 including shipping, VAT/import duties) has a major issue --------- -----It won't allow me to store any user patches! I followed the instructions that I was given over the...

Oh crappity, time flies during this time of year. Well, I'm going to have to come back with some demos. I was playing more of the Moog VCA vs the ATCXi and sometimes noticed the ATCXi was snappier. But I'll get this all in demos. I'll have to see when I can make these demos happen. I better n...

I've got my BCR set up so that osc freqs and pulse widths are on the rotary encoders and with a press they reset to unison tunings and 50% duty cycle waves, really handy. Nice idea. Like I mentioned, I didn't receive any documentation with mine :( Some of the CC information cannot be transmitted by...

Got my ATC-Xi yesterday. I had it shipped to my family in the USA, who then shipped it to me in Spain with a lower declared value (so that I wouldn't get killed by VAT/import duties). My initial impressions (only had time to play with it for about an hour): Very nice! Most of the presets seem to be ...

Ensoniq DP/4+ - Great bang for the buck. Sounds very nice on synths. T.C. FireworX - Has come down in price on the second-hand market. A bit clinical sounding, but highly flexible and despite the small screen, I find the interface to be very easy to work with. Eventide UltraHarmonizers (DSPxxx seri...

Thanks REwire. I found the PSU (A-100MNT) on Doepfer's site and will order one along with the A-140.

I only fear that this purchase could be a gateway into an obsession with the dark and addictive world of modular synthesis...

you could build a power supply and enclosure or you could buy something like this mini case While it's a cool little box, I'd rather not spend $100 on the Doepfer mini case, as I plan to build a modular system down the road and would prefer a larger enclosure (just can't afford the time and money t...

I believe that a dedicated envelope generator is what I am looking for (like the synthesizers.com stuff). Something like this one might do the trick. As I live in Europe (whereas synthesizers.com is in the USA), should I look at any other european manufacturers of modular gear for an envelope genera...

ADSR Envelope Generator for Standalone Analog Filters via CV

OK - who's got some tips/techniques to share with getting more out of their analog filters? I've got an MF-101, a Frostwave Resonator, and a Mutronics Mutator. All are really great pieces of gear that I've gotten good use out of. Sometimes I use each of them as the filter section of other various sy...
