Emu Emulator II price on the Bay

I recently got a university grant to collect and sample some old "landmark" synths/samplers. Do you think $1800 is too much for a Emu Emulator II? assuming it's for a project specifically about old synths - not that a modern synth's value outweighs an old timer. Im under a time constraint so just wo...

Re: Eyeballing synclaviers - some questions

thanks for the reply. how would you say the sequencing is? Coming from a DAW background, am i going to be pulling my hair out? I am mainly interested in working "differently" - meaning a different process to achieve different results that I might not otherwise conceive in a conventional DAW. Someone...

ARP 2600 questions: patch cables / voltage

my friend is letting me borrow an ARP 2600 that hasn't been used in years. just curious, will it take normal 1/8 mini or something else? i assume it's easy enough to wire up my own, but are there any caveats? I have a ton of doepfer cables. can it use those? what about inter-voltage issues between a...

Eyeballing synclaviers - some questions

I have been looking at synclavs lately and I have a few questions for those of you with experience on them. I am mainly looking for unique sounds rather than a new way to make music. My personal "sound" is very important to my line of work so anything to build on or augment that is a welcome additio...

Re: Synthi still made?

Got an email from Robin: Thank you for your enquiry and apologies for the delay in replying. It has taken far longer than we expected to finally restart production of the original Synthi A and VCS3 and we can only ask for forgiveness from potential customers who have been kept waiting. The first bat...

Re: Synthi still made?

Maybe we should organize and write him and see what's up? If I got 100 emails all at once asking me what the h**l was up I would get the message. And my response might be something like "sitting in my underwear drinking coffee writing on a vintage synthesizer forum". Regardless of the mundanity of m...

Re: Synthi still made?

More likely. Americans will be required to buy Synthis - those who cannot afford one will be given a generic model designed by the department of defense.

Re: Synthi still made?

4 year waiting list!!? There could be a new president by then. He/she could be a dictator. We could be living in a regime that doesn't allow for Synthis. I think I'd rather get my hands on one before that happens!

Synthi still made?

The EMS website is pretty old but there is still an address to write if you want to place an order. Does anyone know anything about this? I find it hard to believe that they are still made new at that price while the ebayers are paying $10k for them. Has anyone had any luck placing an order? I assum...

Are doepfer patch cables notoriously bad?

I've had my modular system for about 2.5 years. Sure, there's some wear and tear on my patch cables but I've lately noticed that about half of them have gone bad. Is this the normal lifespan for doepfer patch cables? Is there a better/more durable brand out there? Perhaps I should just solder my own?

How much is reasonable for a synclavier?

A friend of mine is selling a synclavier to a studio and we're trying to figure out how much it's worth. He says it's in flawless condition both functionally and and physically. Any thoughts on how much these are worth?

Patching A-100 to Roland System-100 - CV compatibility?

I have a new (well... used) Roland system 100 101. I patched some of my A-100 CV modules into it and it seems to work great - that is, it produces the intended affect. Is there a risk of damaging the Roland if the Doepfer CV is incompatible? What about vice versa - patching the Roland's output into ...

EMU SP1200 vrs SP12

Hi,

I'm doing a research project on groove quantization and clocks and I'm wondering if anyone knows if the SP1200 and SP12 have the same clock and/or groove (swing) settings? Any help would be fab!

Kyma as compared to MAX/MSP or Nord Modular

I'm just wondering what KYMA offers over MAX/MSP and virtual modulars. I'm most interested in the following: 1) learning curve? 2) programming interface? 3) sound quality 4) versatility 5) company updates and progress (seems kyma website hasn't been updated since 2006?) 6) why is kyma so expensive a...

Re: What's up with GenoQs other than its pricetag?

Well, it sounds like this might be for me then. I have an MPC, Monomachine, Machinedrum and doepfer modular with the sequencer. I know how to use the sequencers on all of them with the MPC providing the most flexibility and intuitive programming. So far the Doepfer seq has been the most fun and insp...
