Re: Which synthesizer(s) do you regret getting or selling
Buying: - Novation KS4, because it was an exceedingly poor approximation of a Supernova 2. Of all the synths I've had this one best fits the description of low-quality. - Yamaha SY-55 not because it's bad, only because it was my first synth . Not a particularly good choice to learn synthesis with. S...

Re: Any advantages Synth --> Amp---> DAW?
i love to record drum machines through a tube bass rig a la ampeg.
some synth leads may benefit from the extra 'poke' that comes from the speaker and color or girth that a pentode offers
it will also tempt one to sound at least 10% more like the dust brothers/beasties

Re: Best synth for keyboard sounds
why do you want another synth if you don't want to program the one you have? (one that can already do it)
might as well get a rompler(JD-800 or JD-990 w/ vintage card, for one) or better yet a korg sv-1 and call it a day

Re: Behringer Deep Mind 12
It seems to produce a fine toot. Nice filter and DCOs, as DCOs go. BUT I'm confused with the intended use of this synth. Why does it have the fancy FX processors..but no preset buttons? That's a deal-breaker for a gigging synth, while a studio synth doesn't really need an FX processor. Synthesizer ...

Re: The 10 Most Widely Influential Synths Ever
tsk, tsk....another one of those kids? :) ems synthi is 10x more significant to history than half those synths were while picking minimoog over the modular is just as short-sighted the teleharmonium, rca mk2 and novachord were all vastly more influential than any of these - since they influenced the...

Re: Korg Minilogue Polyphonic Analog Synth
I am very glad I held off and did not buy an MS20mini, a Karp or a Boutique (not to mention a Brute or BS-II). This is going to be way, way better even with the stupid minikeys. i wouldn't say that it's 'better' than a karp or ms-20...modulation is pretty slim, and CV is non-existent but for sync.....

So these are my impressions, based on about a half an hour to an hour of mucking about. Keep in mind, I had no...

Re: Yamaha Montage synthesizer --- with FM engine!
if access to the FM engine is thorough and elegant, I'm there.
rattling my brain to remember - what else besides oasys and the dx programmer has offered a fully exploitable FM interface? EX5 or SY77/99?

Re: On the importance of using "hot" gear
everybody starts somewhere, and times change how we view things. i started on a borrowed sy-55 & hr-16, a s**t solid-state amp and other cheap guitar stuff. analog didn't have the 'prestige' it does today in some circles, and was kicked around as being old junk by most people in the 90s. Around '97 ...

Re: Desktop vs full keyboard synths
- Feeling-wise during playing and programming, did you notice a major difference between a full synth or the desktop+MIDI keyboard version ? ime polysynths suffer more from interface cut-down into a desktop form factor. monosynths not so much as they are often suited to being interfaced more readil...
