Re: synths on akira and ghost in the shell soundtracks
I'll have to check out the GITS one. I saw the movie ages ago and thought it was hot stuff...which soundtracks no doubt always play a part in. I guess the D50 is THE sound of anime from that period...which isn't surprising, since it was a good seller and Japanese to boot.

Re: synths on akira and ghost in the shell soundtracks
I think the D50 was used a lot. Not 100% sure, about 95% sure. Have a few releases by Geinoh Yamashirogumi, they have done some really original music, particularly the Akira soundtrack and Ecophony Rinn.
No idea about GITS.

Re: Akai MINIAK
Spent some time with one in the local GC. There was no cacophony of gospel B3 or emo kids doing their best imitation of Arnie from Gilbert Grape on a microkorg, so I could hear it unadulterated. I really like this synth. If I was on a budget and wanted a good VA, this is the one I'd go for. I didn't...

Sweet! Can you relay the Mothersbaugh story? I'm a fan.Zonkout wrote:I've never really been into Nitzer, but saw the show in Houston last night and had a great time.
Bon Harris told me some stories about Mark Mothersbaugh and how he once got to play T.O.N.T.O.

KRS-One "Robot" > Jay-Z "Death of Autotune"
Great video. Makes a helluva lot more sense than playing poker with Harvey Keitel. Not that there's anything wrong with that.

Oh, duh. The LFO doubles as OSC3, so obviously it has to reach audio range. Heh heh

Thinking of Swapping Out FRXS for Neptune II
Don't get me wrong, the XS is awesome. I just need something faster interface wise. The XS is actually quite complex. End up spending more time dicking around then writing music, because there's so many possibilities. Looking for something more basic that still sounds great with snappy envelopes. Do...

Re: NITZER EBB on tour
They closed with "I Give it to You" which is my favorite ebb song, and that one went over alright. "getting closer" which is another favorite was not very good at all. All of the songs seemed to be slowed down too, especially noticeable in payroll which had to be like two or three BPM slower, and t...

Re: Another Dedicated Ableton Controller---from Novation!
Too bad there's no knobs for the plugs like on the APC, but the price is nice. I'd really like to see Novation release a mouse with their speed dial on it, or an Automap version of their X-series synth/audio interface.

Re: Why buy hardware synths?
Software has its pluses, but when I work solely in a DAW for a while, I start feeling icky. It's sort of like the difference between standing on the edge of a large mountain with an epic view, and standing in a 6 X 6 cell with the same scene painted on the walls by a matte artist.

Re: Congratulations: you're a f***ing synth addict again!
People have spent as much on things more stupid than that. Just think of that when you give yourself a hard time. Several million people have bought Snuggies, for example. I used to get snuggies from my brother for free.
