Re: Korg DW8000 (not working) how much should I pay?

Depends also if you know a synth repair guy who's good. Tracking down the source of unpredictable malfunctions is hard I think.I'm on my 2nd DW8000 now - it's a great synth - but so poorly made - just cheap and prone to break. My current one's just developed a sticky key type fault - I've already ha...

Re: Neuron vs. Fizmo vs. K5000 vs. Morpheus vs. FS1R

Infinite respect for these deep digital synths. I've used my fs1r a lot recently - and am getting to appreciate abandoning the need for conscious control in favour of just tweeking and exploring - often finding sweet random spots. I've not played my fizmo for a while but its amazing. I think I prefe...

Re: Korg Delta - opinions please?

I had one for many years and loved it, but only in a sentimantal, looks so cool sort of way. Its very limited and I had an RS101 and this was better for strngs. And it kept breaking down till i just gave up on it. Used to get some amazing death rattle noises out of it as it collapsed while playing l...

Re: Ensoniq SQ80 and Ensoniq EPS

I'v had both of these and still have the SQ80 -its an amazing synth and congrats on getting a mint one! The EPS is also an amazing instrument - I made some really great sounds on mine - but it malfuntioned and I ran out of space... so out it went but lots to explore on each. I think the SQ80 is abou...

Re: fs1r - any tips for instant gratification?

Thanks for the replies - I don't even own a computer at the moment (I'm using my work computer) - but maybe one day I'll get one and use it for fs1r editing - and yeah my question is probably hopeless - . Last night I just dived into the menus rather randomly and got an extraordinary result - a stra...

fs1r - any tips for instant gratification?

I'm using my fs1r for ambient style music at the moment and working quickly so I can get stuff finished to post on soundcloud. I'm into modifying the factory patches as much as I can and using the 8 knob options with good results often. I was using an emu audity 2000 and got some good instant result...

Re: Synthesizers and their (true) sound

I'v been experimenting with some very basic drone synths recently - and adding wild effects to make them interesting - using things like 2 alesis inekos where I can create some original sounds and some wild realtime modulations using the effect knobs. Its a primitive style but very satisfying - the ...

Re: zoom ARQ

This looks really interesting - I really like Zoom stuff and have a lot of faith in then as a company.I use their old St224 sampler a lot - its the best performance orientated sampler I'v come across - ease of looping, great effects easy to manipulate in realtime. (their multieffect boxes are great ...

Re: 8 Bit / Glitch

The bastl trinity drum module has a nice glitch sound chip you can put in - it also allows sounds to be nastily crunched and the release on the envelope to be pushed a long way out. The interface is really difficult to use which makes it fairly random to use in itself. I'd recommend it. Also the 'an...

Re: What synth have you bought more than one of?

2 x Juno 6 - second one coz it was such a bargain and my first was a bit tatty - sold both in the end

2 x DW8000 - 1st one died of old age - still have my 2nd, which is in excellent shape and was great to find as a replacement.

Re: Songs with Casio or Yamaha keyboards?

my fravourite is "The man whose head expanded' by the Fall, which uses a very cheesy casiotone (VL-1 ?) beat for the first part. Then Marc Smith declares "turn that bloody blammy space invader off!" and the song moves into wonderful freedom without the wooden casiotone beat. Its amazing to have the ...

Re: How to DIY repaint a synth (w/ mask, writings...)

I'v done a fair bit of decorating synths etc - I'v got pics on my facebook page (Tom Cadillac) if you want to check things out. But this probably wouldn't suit something classic. You can get some nice ink pens from model shops. Also sharpies are good in silver and gold. Stickers are good also and th...

Re: Unique sounds and/or synthesis

The fizmo definately goes places other synths don't - and the fs1r sounds great but its hard to force the interface to shift into new territory - the DX200 is much more usable for this - Don't really think synth manufacturers are very concerned about uniqueness - hence the development battle between...

Re: Would the Korg M1 be a decent synth for darker music?

I'm on my second DW8000 - they are not well built - but still plenty cheap. My other suggestion is the emu audity 2000 - cheap rack. This is filled with sick dark sounds. I used it on a project - X Stendell (on bandcamp) if you want to check it out. The audity is so cheap that it'd be well worth jus...
