Now that is one boxful of happiness! It may not completely fit the bill for a fully articulated polyphonic synth, but never mind that because it is one of the most inspiring machines I have ever worked with.

Re: The thread of many (analog) polys

This thread may be old, but I'm up for some late night synth-ranting so here goes: Like so many, I love the Junos, despite their simplicity. I've found the Juno-6 to be my favourite, because it's so pure. The lack of memory means that the sliders always indicate how your sound is, and working with i...

Re: Super Basic Hardware Sample Playback Machine

So wait, I just found this: http://www.mpcstuff.com/akai-mpc-1000-pad-set-new-version-pad-fix-upgrade/ VS this: http://www.mpcstuff.com/akai-mpc-1000-extra-sensitive-thick-fat-pad-set-purple/ I'll have dig a little deeper, but it looks like the 'upgrade' provides brand new components for every part...

Re: Akai MPX16 is junk (video included)

I'm going to buy an MPX16 soon and figure out this problem, send a patchfix to Akai so they can get off their duffs and keep on putting out excellent gear :) Yes! Do it! I found your MPX8 teardown intriguing! Make a 3rd party OS like JJ for the MPC so Akai can sell more units and never thank you fo...

Re: Akai MPX16 is junk (video included)

I've done some sniffing around this problem are any of you using the converter or raw files?... I've tried various ways of importing, as well as various formats and sample rates. The problem does not lie in the file transfer, because there is a "sample edit/preview" menu where the sample plays corr...

Re: Super Basic Hardware Sample Playback Machine

Congrads! I'm sure at this point, a lot of the people that own blue ones have probably replaced the pads already anyway, so you might luck out. What exactly is the problem with the pads? Do they become non responsive, or like deteriorate into goo or something? They simply stop working. I've been us...

Re: Super Basic Hardware Sample Playback Machine

The MPC1000 is surely the way to go! I've been using a blue and red one live since 2007. Finally mustered up the courage last week to splurge f#%&# $250 on the pad upgrade!!! Akai is a terrible company with 0 karma points. Too bad they make some things which I can't live without for my live work. Ma...

Re: DSI Pro 2 vs Mono Evolver Keyboard

I got a Pro2 recently, and find it an entirely different beast from the earlier DSI stuff. I hated the Prophet '08 and I had an Evolver desktop years ago which I never bonded with and sold quickly. Additionally, I have used the Mopho X4 a LOT because it's a handy live synth, sounds pretty good and d...

There's the Akai MPX16, which is fairly new, and only $200. No sequencer, but there's a digital filter, envelopes, etc.
Stay away from that one. It has a firmware flaw, still unfixed since its release, which cuts the beginnings of samples away randomly. The "Tshh" of a Linn snare becomes "shh".

Re: Akai MPX16 is junk (video included)

It's weird right? Did anyone at Akai even try the damn thing?

I'd love to see a good review from sonicstate, bashing the thing, so more people don't get suckered into buying this thing, because on paper, it is a very cool gadget.

Akai MPX16 is junk (video included)

I was kind of excited about this piece when I heard about it, because I thought could potentially replace my aging MPC1000 in my live set. So, I got my hands on one, and my feeling about it is less like disappointment, and more like AMAZEMENT with how incredibly bad it is. It simply can not play bac...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=egYsel1Tvsk&list=UUF5ZWO7z4uJDSQR3kMRcP4Q We had a really fun time with these guys, played a whole show for them and played this song twice, to be able to sync more shots. I'm the guy with the synths and MPC at 1:37. Music production-wise, the drums are Vermona DRMII...
