Re: Bringing an Emax HD back to life!

Congrats on the Emax HD. I would go here for new backlight foil: http://www.midi-rakete.de/ Also I would seriously consider a EZ135 drive or a ZIP drive if you're sure they are compatible. Inside I would only go for a Compact Flash card solution these days as they are power friendly and does not hea...

Re: To buy or not to buy: Emulator II+

Well ... I took every precaution to make the tests as similar as possible. The filters are VERY different. I read the 'Emax is an EII on a chip' marketing stuff too - but believe me; they do not sound alike. The Emax has a more aggressive filter that's for sure. Which one I prefer? It depends on the...

Re: To buy or not to buy: Emulator II+

Yes, the Emax is the EII on an IC with external analogue filters. A VSE member posted a comparison of the same sound sampled on an Emulator, an EII and if I remember rightly and Emax as well, and if memory serves they all sounded slightly different. That would be me .-) Read and hear it here: http:...

Re: Xpander Vs SunSyn vs ???

Those are all awesome synths I just feel that most of their value lies in the nostalgia/exclusivity department. Not true I would say. There is nothing that sounds as marvelous as a real PPG. I have a 360 Wavecomputer, Wave 2, Wave 2.3 and an EVU and these synths are unbeatable soundwise and are all...

Re: E-mu's Bizarre Sense Of Humour!

Indeed, Mackie manuals ARE great! They're very clear, concise and informative, with a friendly, casual tone (instead of sounding like the monotonous delivery of a very boring tech writer), and littered with excellent humour, from chuckle-worthy to howl-inducing. Easily some of the best manuals I've...

Probably. I have two and haven't come across any slugs I'm afraid :-)

Hmm .. I have the IIx library CDROM as well - couldn't find anything like this. Will look again :-)

Re: fairlight (?) choir samples needed

I decided to boot up the ol' Emulator II and load in all Choir presets I could find (which is a lot - choirs were HUGE in early/mid eighties :-)). I found one on one of the marvelous Optical Media Solutions CDROM's. I am pretty sure it is the one. Not processed in any way: http://www.12bit.com/Audio...

It also sounds to me like the choir used in Depeche Modes In Your Room - Original album version.
