Re: Questions about the modular fascination

Strange how you almost came with the sobering voice but then sound like the epitome of every previous sentiment. You gush about how you created a sound, which was already stated earlier about the journey. Then, speak about your 'control' which is related to how you feel- even with the kid analogy t...

Re: Questions about the modular fascination

I own a modular for several reasons: 1) I control EVERYTHING. No company dictates how I use the pieces. Remember the crazy c**p you could get up to with Legos as a kid? Yeah. That, but with sound. The other night I was using my dotcom state variable filter, sending out four filter curves at once wit...

Modular/MS20/Microbrute (Berlin School/Ambient)

Just wrapped up a solid 7 months of work on this little gem. It's name your own price (free) as always and always done in one go with no edits. http://tarotsync.bandcamp.com/album/dark-zone Gear list as follows: Synths: Modular System (modules by Analog Systems, Moog, Moon Modular, STG Soundlabs, Sy...

Re: Last remaining good value analogue poly synths?

This might be unpopular to say, but I think the Korg Poly 61 is a hidden gem. As long as you have a bit of patience and make sure there's no issues with the battery leakage (as is common with the Poly 61, Polysix, and Poly 800) you'll have a good time. Takes well to FX too.

Re: Effects processor for Nord Lead

Which Nord did you buy? I have a 2x and I make use of the following on mine:

Dwarfcraft Devices "The Great Destroyer"
EHX Small Clone
Mu-Tron Phasor MK1
EHX Electric Mistress Deluxe
Eventide Pitch Factor (might be out of your price range)
Lexicon MX200
EHX Freeze

Re: What should I buy?

Everybody seems to be ignoring the fact that the OP is going for a Juno 60 in addition to a Moog Sub 37 or DSI Pro 2. More versatile combo is more versatile. The Minimoog is an amazing synth, but I wasn't aware it had all the same features of a Juno 60 and Moog Sub 37 and then some. You learn someth...

Re: Minibrute+Blofeld for ambient sounds. Would that work?

The Blofeld is an ambient machine. As for the Minibrute, it seems like unless you're going to run it through heavy effects, it seems a little silly. For the same money, you could buy another Blofeld and have two ambient machines.

Re: What should I buy?

If you want versatility and less upkeep issues, go with the Juno 60/Sub 37 or Juno 60/Pro 2 combo. I know the Juno will require some upkeep down the line, but I feel like it would be less than the Minimoog. Although the Juno 60 is a high class instrument in its own right, everybody here is correct i...

Re: So what's everybody's take on the Reactable?

It just seems like a gimmick to me. I'm sure it comes down to whether or not the person clicks with it, but I just can't see any advantages to this over other formats. It seems like a VST with a big, goofy controller required, which kind of defeats the point of VSTs, IMO.

Re: What's your favorite synthesis method--

I know it's just a form of analog synthesis, but using a modular is by far my favorite. With a traditional synth, you get locked into a programming routine and the board sort of takes you where you down a set path, where as using a modular feels so free and limitless. I stare at a blank modular and ...
