too much trouble
It sounds cool but the museum would have to charge a ridiculously high admission price; otherwise, it would take about 2 weeks for all the synths to get busted by tourists and sloppy, little kids. People don't treat stuff right if it's not their's.

... the first synth i ever had was the dx-21... i got it when i was 4 and it was brand new... You were given a Yamaha DX synth when you were 4? Wow...I was playing outside with sticks and little green army men when I was 4. I admit it. I'm jealous...but happy for your opportunities. I'm just dying ...

...One thing about presets on vintage synths is that they sound dated. If you are in an 80s cover band you're set but otherwise you end up sounding like your in an 80s cover band. True. I generally use some generic sounds (like electric piano, for example) just to get the notes down (in the sequenc...

Hundreds of acts used the J-8 to great effect. DD is just another one of them. Why they get held up as some kind of representative of JP8's on this board is puzzling. It's not like they innovated anything - they were a good pop band, not much more. Hundreds of bands using it is irrelevent. Duran Du...

Ive used both synths..... Ive owned two Jupiter 8's.... Dont read too much into that. Ok, now my explanation...Cheers DS I found your perspective very informative. I don't know that I've ever heard an Andromeda but everyone's heard a Jupiter 8. However, I think I can imagine pretty well how the A6 ...

A lot of times when I hear the SQ-80/ESQ-1, the sound reminds me of the Amiga 500. I remember reading somewhere, that the Mirage shares some technology with the Amiga, so perhaps other Ensoniqs do too. I know some of them use Amiga format floppies. This Amiga-ish sound has really wet my appetite fo...

Id like an amp that can reproduce my synths accurately but can also overdrive and distort in pleasant ways if I want. A high end sound. The equivalent of a marshal super lead for a synth Have you ever tried using a good quality OD guitar pedal? Maybe something like a TubeWorks Blue Tube or another ...

Huh? He's saying that although it does not particularly sound like a Roland SH-101 keyboard mono synth, the preset sound titled "101 bass" in the Roland JV1080, JV1010, and JV2080 digital rackmount modules is still pretty cool. Check it out if you own one of those units. Ah, I see. Thanks. I'm a st...

I'm yo baby daddy!
I've got the SQ-80's daddy...the ESQ-1. I've had it and used it ALOT (even gigged with it ALOT) since I bought it in 1988. Mine was made in 1987. Whoever said that these boards look "good on paper but sound like s**t" just doesn't know how to program patches into it--that person simply doesn't know ...

If they are using it and it keeps them out of trouble...then it is worth it. Yea.. better give your kid a guitar to keep 'im away from sex, drugs and rock'n roll... ;) I meant killing, raping, theft, etc If your kid is the kind to get caught up in killing, raping, theft, etc then no amount of music...

We had to do a two day shift cleaning chimneys and arrived for school late and get belted the seven colours of shite out off, coz we were late. Every day. Or two. Anyw...

Old Skool
IN highschool? Just a friggin' alto saxophone, dude (and that was borrowed!). No, wait, I had a 4-string electric bass too (but it was s**t) and a really crappy amp (which I still have! ). Within the summer after I graduated I had a full drumset. By the next summer I had an electric guitar a...

What I was doing was hogging up channels on our mixing board by running 2 keyboards in stereo (hogging 4 channels) plus my mic. I was just taking a monitor mix from the board and putting on a chair next to me. When THAT band split, the guitarist took his mixer with him. So, I'm trying to build anoth...

What combo amps do recommend for...
If you have ever read reviews of keyboard amplifier combos, you've noticed a majority of them are written by guitarists. As something of a guitar player myself, I have a Marshall valve (tube) combo amp for use with my guitar. I have, on occasion, plugged my keyboard into it--the results were basical...
