You can still get the Emax II for next to nothing, but those analog filters in the original Emax really jacked the price in the last few years.

Re: DK SYNERGY?

Okay, so in the two years since I posted this, I was able to get a fairly beat up, but serviceable, Synergy 1 for 300 dollars on Craigslist that, even though it doesn't have the rs242 port or board to connect to it, came with a working Kaypro II and 6 cartridges. Without the computer software your e...

Re: Hot Zampler with batteries

Hmm, I have a feeling that Threx is probably part of the Beat Kangz crew himself - his whole conceit is a little too esoteric to be real. I mean, the timing, the perfect phonetics of his street patois - the endless adherence to his high concept comedy of a fear of Free Masons. If he's not someone's ...

Re: Crumar Trilogy...

I had one in the 90's - my first synth and not a very good introduction. The oscillators were a total mess. It was a string synth primarily and not a very good one. Hundred bucks - worth it. 2 fifty -too much. Good call in avoiding.

Re: HEALTH - We Are Water (Optimus Prime Remix)

I've heard a few tracks from Sisterworld. It sounds like Beck and Nick Cave collab'ed and put together a chamber punk record - only not nearly as interesting as that sounds. BUUUT I've only heard three tracks and I'm biased, so it could be brilliant, I dunno - I'm forty years old dammit, this stuff ...

Re: KRAUTROCK Synths !!!!! atmospheres

Well, without having Conny Plank at your disposal, I would say focus on the already offered advice of getting a few decent effects ('70s-style phaser, analog delay, and some reverb should get you going in the right direction). A good chunk of those synth-like sounds on kraut rock records weren't sy...

Re: HEALTH - We Are Water (Optimus Prime Remix)

Liars is another band I don't get. I love Drums Not Dead - that album was brilliant, but it seems to have been a fluke. I highly applaud their ability to not stick with a sound, but it never feels like they know what they're doing. That guys lyrics can be embarrassingly goofy, too which makes actual...

Re: ensoniq mirage question(s)...

It's not as immediate as you seem to imagine it, but neither is it as convoluted as folk often say. The most common myth about it is that you need to be an expert in Hexadecimal to program it. That's nonsense. So true! I avoided getting one for ages due to the net chatter, but when I gave in and we...

Re: HEALTH - We Are Water (Optimus Prime Remix)

Are these guys any good live because their first record seemed kinda Boredoms lite to me. A lot of people I respect are digging this, but it just isn't happening for me. What am I missing?

Re: Can someone explain samplers to me? I'm not quite sure..

I just got a Korg MS-1 microSAMPLER. While I haven't played with it yet, from all I've read / seen / heard, it seems to be fairly intuitive. While it's not the cheapest sampler out there, and the keyboard mode is kind of an afterthought, this may be a good place to start, especially if electronics i...
