I've tried out the Vostok mark 1. It can sound dirty and nasty in ways that most modern designs cannot. The digital oscillator doesn't have the oomph to play clean tones above the bass region. It does NOT sound like a Synthi. I've only heard the Cwejman in mp3s, but they all sound pretty clean. I'd ...

I'd read or heard that the early records had a lot of Prophet 5; I don't know which rev. It should come up on an internet search.

Ask Nord Modular users if their patches sound more "vintage" with the Tilt Filter, than without. I didn't realise the NM sounded ‘vintage’ at all unless the age of late 90's VA has had a revival? :P Maybe that answers your question? Is there anyone here who knows what I'm referring to? I loo...

The last software release, 1.40.12 was written -during- the bankruptcy. Alesis evidently sell enough each month to continue production.

I don't know how a batch of bad chips got by the automated test fixture. The same one that has been selecting working chips for years...

The GX1 isn't all that unless you like small, squazzy sounds, and a drum machine that picks up multiple radio stations at once.

It IS the finest, most playable polyphonic keyboard-based interface I've used, however. Too bad it sounds like that.

Gate delays can do subharmonic synthesis, add swing to rhythms, and let you do flams or any sort of (single) echo'd synthesis (there was a track on the old Cosmos series with a melodic line of one timbre and a different timbre repeated the line with a short delay. nice.). Sequential switches can som...

I don't have a component-level experience of the Moog, but since you're delving into the pots, there are a couple of items worth being aware of. The filter uses, IIRC, AB Type J pots (inverse log?). If you have the oldest model 901b oscillators, you may find that they have wire-wound pots for the Fr...

You may not care for the -way- Mark said it, but -what- he said is the truth, regarding the very real, very large danger of catastrophe via the 910. Really. I used to use a 910 in mine, fully aware of the danger involved, but that's because of the particular level of a*s within me. I would never rec...
