Re: What 80s songs can the DX7 Tubular Bells be heard on?

Hiya, Correct me if any of these aren't DX7, but I'm a big fan of that patch as well and these sound close: Pink Floyd - Yet Another Movie David Bowie - Magic Dance (synclavier, maybe?), New York's In Love Sparks - a great many of the songs on "Pulling Rabbits Out Of A Hat" Gary Numan - Miracles I r...

Re: How have Arturia Origin sales been?

I know someone with a background in synth design that recently bought one. I'm waiting to hear his thoughts on it, so when he gets back to me I'll let you know. Personally I like the concept but the price is a bit much.

Re: Which was your first music toy?

Hiya, Major Morgan the electronic organ was one of mine. It made some ghostly drones if you 'accidentally dropped it in the rain barrel' and fished it out again! My original is long gone but I now own a few of them. The earlier models have far less-stable tuning so you can get interesting nuances ou...

Re: alpha juno hoover crew

Presumably you're using the "What The?" preset, which has a long attack and I believe the "DCO Env" is also turned up. If you turn the envelope attack right down you should be able to play notes easier, and failing that try turning DCO Env down as well. To me the Hoover sounds best when played with ...

My Ace Tone Rhythm Ace FR-2L was $5 (cdn) at a local flea market. It 's a little ratty-looking, but works and sounds just fine. I was on a high that day. I often find good toy keyboards for cheap, some of them a little obscure. There's nothing worse than being beaten to an SK-1 by a seven-year-old ;...

My Alpha Juno-1 had a bunch of sounds that were slight variations on the presets. I bought it from a tech, but Judging by the nature of the user patches and the way they were laid out in the program banks, the synth was likely owned by someone in a pub band/covers band. Some of the patches had odd n...

Hi, As well as the albums by Numan already mentioned (Sacrifice in particular) you'll hear a lot of wave-sequences on his Outland and Machine & Soul albums, plus "Human" the collection of mood pieces composed during the sessions for The Unborn soundtrack. One of the distinctive metallic wave-sequenc...

Fantastic! And your CS01 has a really nice color-scheme. Mine's black w/ red & gold, which is standard I think. I run a yahoo group devoted to CS-synths in general; it's only small, with little content as yet, but from humble beginnings as they say: http://launch.groups.yahoo.com/group/cs-synths/ I ...

Wow, DX7... I never would have guessed, but it's obvious now. Commodork, if you check this link there's an mp3 demo of the DX7's tubular bells preset:

I take back my recent panning of this synth, for that sound alone ;)

I can only speak for the CS-5 and CS01, the CS-5 being my favoured of the two. Unfortunately it's away being repaired, but by being creative with the filter cutoff and envelope I found I could make it very fat in the bass department. I miss it something terrible... The CS01 does sound rather thin in...

Having listened to a clip of "Confusion" I've discovered this is the exact same bell sound I've been trying to identify myself for some time now! It also appears on these songs: Sparks - Pulling Rabbits Out Of A Hat (occur most noticeably at 1:51) Sparks - Love Scenes (main riff) Gary Numan - Miracl...
