Re: My first Synth

The Roland Go Keys is cheap with high quality sounds. No sound editing but has sampled sounds and some Synth sounds in mono mode. If you want something more versatile check out the Casio XW-P1. It has dedicated Synth, Organ, and Sampled sections all of which can be edited. A bit more money but look ...

Re: Your latest musical purchase

Nord Stage 3 Compact. These things are so expensive but I finally got one of these after months of looking for a good deal. Found a perfect condition B-Stock unit for almost twelve hundred dollars less than A-Stock.

Re: SIX-TRAK battery replacement and still presets will not

An experienced tech would have tested the unit to make sure it was working properly. I would take it back to him and have him track down the problem.

Re: Still possible to get a Juno 60 for a good deal?

It seems Juno 6/60's are at about $1200 minimum asking price right now wherever you look. There is this Akai AX60 on CL for $700 and a couple on Reverb for a bit more. It is pretty much functionally equivalent to the Juno 6/60/106 but has VCO's, Split, Mono-Mode and Pitch/Mod Wheels.

The SY99 is better if you have the space.

Re: Buying First Synthesizer (Under 1500 Euro)

The Kurzweil SP6 has some of the best Piano sounds currently available. It also has the KB3 Tonewheel Organ section which allows you to make your own Organ settings rather than just play fixed Organ samples as on other keyboards. The SP6 has many sounds that you will not find on any other keyboard i...

Re: Synths used in The Psychedelic Furs- Love my way?

Todd Rundgren was interviewed by Songfacts regarding "Love My Way". Here is what he had to say: Songfacts: Todd, "Love My Way." Whose idea was the marimbas? Todd: They had a demo of the song, and I don't remember what the instrument was that they were using. It might've been just a guitar. But I hap...

It might be "The Minotaur" by d**k Hyman. It was released as a single edited down from a much longer album version.

Re: Best casio keyboard for PCM

The Casio WK series has some basic Synth functions like Attack, Release, Filter Cutoff, Resonance (on pre WK-7500 models), and LFO Modulation. In addition to hundreds of ROM sounds there is a Tonewheel Organ section which can be modified by all of the Synth functions. Amongst the hundreds of Pianos/...

Re: Jupiter 6 for ?

Before getting rid of the Jupiter try putting it through a good chorus. When using the second oscillator avoid using Sync and tune it exactly one octave below the first oscillator using only sawtooth and square/pulse waves. Don't use Cross Mod and don't modulate oscillator pitch with an envelope. Ke...

Re: Why are Euroracks called "Euroracks?"

In 1996 Dieter Doepfer set a rack standard based on rack enclosures that were commonly available secondhand in Europe. Other manufacturers configured their modules to conform to Doepfer's Eurorack standard and an industry was born.

Re: Slight buyer's remorse on my Jupiter 6...

Regarding mixing sections. it is interesting to note the compromises that apparently had to be made due to the limits in processing power. It seems that having a full-service mixing section forced compromises in other areas. On the Prophet 5 there is a continuously variable knob for each oscillator ...

Re: Slight buyer's remorse on my Jupiter 6...

Yes, those five voices on the Prophet can be limiting. On my Prophet I get dropped notes if I don't play in a very precise detached manner. This happens even when I play less than five notes. According to the tech that restored it this is due to the limits of processing power available at the time a...
