Re: NI Komplete Synths Sale--August only

An update: With GC's big Labor Day sale, the price is even lower. I got this package for $160 last night at my local GC.

Re: Modular Synth drum sounds

Basic percussive sounds are pretty easy: Take an envelope with really fast attack, relatively quick decay, zero sustain, and no release and use that to modulate both the pitch and amplitude of any old oscillator. Tweak to taste and you've got a very basic analog-style kick. Add a noise source and yo...

Re: KORG DS-10 for Nintendo DS

I got my own copy of DS-10 last night, and the consensus is right on: this thing is a blast. If you know your way around analog-style synthesis, this thing will be totally intuitive. The only thing that struck me as a bit odd was the old-school Korg terminology "modulation generator" (MG) instead of...

Re: MIDI CC# Bits?!

That is nasty. The problem is that if, for instance, you want to change OSC 2, the control has to "remember" what the last values sent to OSC 1 and 3 were and put those values in the message so that they don't get changed. Off the top of my head, I can't think of any way of doing that without writi...

Re: MIDI CC# Bits?!

That's a nasty control scheme they've got going there. Basically, you've 6 bits, 0-5, so the basic table looks like: 00 00 00 = 0 = 1/1/1 10 00 00 = 1 = 2/1/1 01 00 00 = 2 = 3/1/1 11 00 00 = 3 = 4/1/1 00 10 00 = 4 = 1/2/1 10 10 00 = 5 = 2/2/1 01 10 00 = 6 = 3/2/1 11 10 00 = 7 = 4/2/1 00 01 00 = 8 = ...

3-VCO, 3-LFO drone box: http://i182.photobucket.com/albums/x285/deapecunia/fraudible.jpg Red knobs control the VCOs pitch. Their waveform is switchable via the three upper right buttons. Blue knobs control the LFOs rate. They share the same waveform which is switchable via the lower right button. G...

Re: Alesis Micron or Microkorg?

I own both these little guys, so I I'll throw my two cents in: The MicroKorg is definitely the funner, more accessible of the two. Switch it on, select a preset and go. One-button access to the arpeggiator and knobs for cutoff, resonance, amp attack and decay, and tempo right up front mean you can g...

Thanks for the recommendations. I'll be checking these out after work tonight!

Re: The Field

Excellent link, Hearteh. Much appreciated. I can see where you're coming from when it comes to repetition, but I guess that's just the name of the game. For me personally, being a fan of a lot of the ambient house-type stuff mentioned in the article since way back, The Field just hits all those same...

The Field

I've had From Here We Go Sublime by The Field on repeat for the past several days, and I'm curious about what gear Axel Willner used on this album.

I'm guessing it's all software, but I'd be pleasantly surprised to hear otherwise.

Anyone have any info? What do you guys think of this album?

DX-7 Keys?

Long time lurker, first time poster. Be gentle. I just picked up an old Yamaha DX-7. It's in good shape except that one of the black keys doesn't spring back up. If I lift it up and let it go, it drops and triggers a note. It also sounds like it's responding to aftertouch, so I don't think there's a...
