Re: I have a soft spot for...
Everybody knows I have a soft spot for the Juno-106, in spite of everything. I guess because it was my first synth, but also because I had a lot of good times with it when I was in a band.

Multivox synths
I was not aware until yesterday that Multivox, the company that made cheap knockoff guitars and amps in the '70s, also made some synths at some point. Has anyone ever come across one of these beasts?

Re: Guess that synth: Genesis edition
I'm thinking the strings on "Down and Out" came from the Polymoog... this album and "A Curious Feeling" was his period of flirtation with that synth. By "Duke" it was gone.

Re: how many versions of MOTU MIDI EXPRESS XT ?
This is the version they are marketing now: http://i1072.photobucket.com/albums/w365/David_Cornutt/express-xt-large-front_zpsxnbsoxgn.jpg This is mine. I guess it is an early production unit. http://i1072.photobucket.com/albums/w365/David_Cornutt/20170413_214418_zpsjclxka5v.jpg I personally like the...

I understand the early Andromedas had some voice chip issues. I'm not up on the details.krzeppa wrote:

Re: Ikutaro Kakhashi RIP
Rest in peace to Mr. Kakhashi. He took a company from being a small Japanese manufacturer of drum machines (back when Japanese products still hadn't completely shaken off the 1960s reputation of "cheap") to a worldwide leader in the music industry. I've got a lot of Roland gear. There are a couple o...

Re: What's Wrong With My Juno-106?
I mean, anything of high monetary value is valuable to me... I wouldn't want to just be careless and act like it wouldn't be a big deal if I ruined a thousand dollar synth. Especially since I'm a broke high schooler lol. Oh, I know. It's just that I'm an old fart and I can remember that back in 199...

If you wind up getting the System-8, I'd like to hear about it. What do you envision using it for in that style?krzeppa wrote:I was actually looking at those and possibly a Roland System-8 for my live rig.

Never saw it noted here, but the GR-700 also uses those.coastalscrub wrote:

Two from my 106: a Taurus-like sustained bass, and a dense string/pad patch.

Re: What's Wrong With My Juno-106?
Just an aside, but it's still hard for me to get my head wrapped around the idea that a 106 is a valuable enough synth that you have to be careful working on one... but I guess that's the way it is these days. After 35 years, working examples of almost anything get scarce.

Re: Please help me find out what synths were used in these s
I want to say that guy from Modern English had an Octave Cat, but I wouldn't swear to it. I used to play that song. That synth patch is just a wide-open square wave. It's the easiest patch in the world. I played it on a Juno-106 and it sounded just like the record.

Re: Juno 106 owners:Do you have both banks A and B loaded?
Yeah, it came from the factory with all 128 slots loaded. I've kept maybe a third of them. All the rest are my own patches. I have a few oddball things, like bank 4 in group A is all the same patch except for the filter cutoff, which is different in each one. Back in my band days (a long time ago!),...

Re: Firewire or USB, that is the question
If you're in the Mac world, it might be worth looking into some of the new MOTU interfaces that have Thunderbolt interfaces. The 624 is in the ballpark of what you are looking for. They probably won't be cheap, but... My problem with USB is that it uses a master/slave communications protocol. Becaus...
