Re: A-ha - Take on Me - Roland Juno 106
Thanks for the kind words. The point I was trying to make is that there are two patches that make up the lead sound, as you will hear in the (isolated) original synth track below if you listen carefully: https://youtu.be/F69R6dftxaQ For this reason alone, an unlayered Juno cannot reproduce that lead...

Re: A-ha - Take on Me - Roland Juno 106
As erikljunggren pointed out, the original sound is layered. One sound has a short decay and is an octave lower. The other has a longer decay. This can’t be achieved on a Juno alone. Click here for badly mixed instrumental demo. don't be a fool It is layered whether you like it or not and I sincere...

Re: The most influential electronic instruments of all time?
It depends on whether you define ‘electronic music’ as ‘any music made with electronic instruments’ or whether you are referring to the genre(s) referred to as ‘electronic music’. Sampling with the Fairlight CMI, Emulator, etc. Mellotron / Chamberlin and other tape-based instruments Theremin (import...

Re: Midi connecting
You must connect the JU06’s MIDI Out to the Arturia’s MIDI In but I’m sure you knew this already. The JU06 must be set as the clock source (master): https://www.roland.com/us/support/knowledge_base/218347863/ and the MicroBrute must be set as ‘slave’ (Int or Auto): https://www.arturia.com/faq/microb...

Re: Aliasing and hardware synths
It was pretty bad on my JP50. The JP8080 isn’t as bad as the JP8000 but it’s definitely there.

Re: Midi connecting
I assume you are trying to control the JU06 from the Microbrute.
MicroBrute MIDI out to JU06 MIDI in.
Make sure they are both set to the same MIDI channel (1-16).

This is my latest musical purchase. 4 months old and only £50, mint condition: Charlie the musical cat. I wanted to call him Tascam but the rest of the family objected.

Re: Is it worth getting a DX7 Mk1?
Oddly enough, I used to dislike the DX7 back in the 80s. The sounds really didn’t impress me. When my Juno 60 and JX3P were stolen, our live sound engineer lent me his DX7 Mk 1 for a gig, which I layered with a hastily-purchased second-hand JX8P. I was reluctant to use that DX at first but that new ...

Re: Is it worth getting a DX7 Mk1?
Yeah, I’ve had a DX7S, a Mk1, a TX7 and I now own a TX802. I’m not going to pretend that I could ever hear a difference. If you transfer sysex banks from a 1st generation to a 2nd generation model, you’ll hear the velocity range issue in all its glory but that’s nothing to do with the converters.

Re: What synths were used in these songs?
I think they used a MiniMoog for a lot of synth sounds at that time. I could be wrong - somebody please correct me if I am - but I think Benny Andersson also used a Polymoog.
