@Micke, good call and I agree. The 770 has those funky envelopes.

Re: What synth used to make these acid house stabs?

I'm curious too. Maybe a Yamaha DX-something or a Roland JX-something?

That first one sounds like it is layered with a pitch effect.

TrondC, thanks. Those are good. I'm fairly certain I'll be putting in an order for one of these in the next month or 2.

Re: Elektron Octatrack!

so most of the demos i've heard are very reminiscent of monolake. i'm a monolake fan but i do not want to sound like monolake. has anyone come across demos that sound way different? i'm looking for examples of twisted jazz, ambient, screwed up analog broken beat acid or klezmer for example. i'd like...

Re: Portable powerpack for playing synths etc 'off the grid'

iphoenix, yeah sorry i was referring to petrol powered inverters. it might be possible to skip the petrol and use butanol in these small engines. the energy density of butanol is much closer to petrol than ethanol is. it may not be legal to use butanol as fuel in your area but it's interesting that ...

Re: Portable powerpack for playing synths etc 'off the grid'

The deep cycle batteries will definitely work as far as juice is concerned. The potential issue is weight; most deep cycle batteries I've seen weigh somewhere between 45-70 lbs which probably precludes a back-packable scenario. A custom LiPo solution might be interesting.

Re: Portable powerpack for playing synths etc 'off the grid'

iphoenix , I'm into this idea too and it becomes super expensive in a hurry. I bought a gas powered inverter that rocks but you wouldn't want to strap its 55lbs of goodness to your back. I'm pro solar but you pay through the nose for the time being. :? It all depends on how dedicated you are to the ...

Re: Worst.. hardware sequencer.. EVER

i'm glad to see the brother pdc100 made the list earlier. that was my first sequencer and i was barely able to write more than a couple of songs with it. that thing was utter c**p. despite that, i still kept an interest in music and eventually upgraded. i'm surprised the yamaha/microsoft cx5m hasn't...
