Re: Oscillators always oscillate?

It depends entirely on the oscillator/synth design, but general practice in analog synths is to have a sample-and-hold circuit for the pitch CV which latches the correct value when a key is depressed and holds it after (so you don't get a sudden change in pitch during the release phase.) Nominally ...

Re: How does VCOs interact with midi message?

I you are buying a kit that already has a MIDI Interface, you are all set. If you are looking at kits that don't have MIDI interfaces, why? You can buy synth kits that do have MIDI, pAiA for instance. http://www.paia.com/prodimages/9308C-fatman-mid.jpg http://www.paia.com/prodimages/9700-side-kit-m...

Re: How does VCOs interact with midi message?

The arduino is a USB interface and I already have audio interface with midi out so won't be needing it. No, that's not correct. Wikipedia - Arduino The Arduino goes into the box together with the VCO and the rest of the stuff. Tidda that type of solution requires both an arduino and the shield. and...

http://musicfromouterspace.com/ soundlab ultimate or plus with tempcos. midi can be added. http://www.doepfer.de/home_e.htm doepfer has a diy board. the synth voice is fully assembled, you do the rest. http://midisizer.com/midi2cv-mk2/ something like this can be paired with your projects to add midi...

Re: State-variable filters: what are they?

In a hardwired synth it doesn't make that much sense...where would you send three or four filter outputs? To the three or four inputs on a switch to the VCA? That's how they usually do it, on the minibrute for example. Confused again. I would have called the Minibrute a multi-mode filter, but not a...

Re: Yamaha Reface

God, it's horrible to be old. I remember when the An1x came out. Everyone hated it. It spent years being a stupid and mocked synth. Now, everyone's all in love with it. au contrair https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JHZGOeQ1jQ4[bbvideo]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JHZGOeQ1jQ4[/bbvideo] ;)

Re: Cheap As Chips

i need to meet some people with superfluous synths to give away.

I once gave away a Korg DDD-5 because I never used it, and couldn't figure out the sequencer anyhow.
Now someone is selling a DDD-1 locally on Kijiji and I'm severely tempted. Wonder if paying it forward really works?
