Re: Price discrepancies?

I'm not even referring to new items! I'm talking about used gear! We pay VAT on used items. To import a big synth to Norway you have to add like 150 dollar shipping + 24% VAT + 4% custom tax -it the end you are always surprised how much you end up paying. And yes, it reflects living standard, healt...

Re: Brand new to synth and stuff

A dll. is an extention file for a host program. A host can be Cubase, Live, Reaper, Cakewalk, Logic, and standalones like Cantabile. Dll files are windows only. Mac instruments are RTAS. The host program has a VST-plugin folder, specified in is settings/properties. You install a VST-instrument by pu...

Re: Quality Matters--interesting post

I wonder how much todays masterkeyboards will sell for in 10 years? My main controller is a 30 year old Yamaha KX88. It was 20 years old when I bought it........ I think it will last for 20 more years. The Roland build quality from the first years (junos and jupiters) are known to be some of the bes...

Re: Is this the infamous DX-7 "Rhodes" sound?

This is my favourite video. It is the "best of DX" bank on the Yamaha synth released after the DX7, the heavy SY77. This video shows a very important thing about the DX synthesizers: No else synth responds as good - the velocity works magic and brings the instrument to life. Yamaha synths has always...

Re: Is this the infamous DX-7 "Rhodes" sound?

Saving all my love... is regarded as the premium example of the El.Piano1 DX7 sound, actually. Not a real rhodes. There is an easy trick to fatten up the stock DX7 sound and make it chorused, just by changing a few parameters. Yes, I think Withney Houston is the best example. She built a whole care...

Re: A-ha "Take On Me" sound.

This article should shed some light on what synths were used http://www.soundonsound.com/sos/mar11/articles/classic-tracks-0311.htm Hm , it should not be difficult to read that text, it says: “When they came to RG Jones, my equipment was already there,” adds Tarney. “This included a [Roland] Juno 6...

Re: Arturia - opinions?

Thanks!! that seems more my style actually. Reminds me of the Elektrostudio VST's. Edit: oh wow! Love the brass sound at 42 secs. I'm sold. http://www.memorymoon.com/demo/china-ME80V3.mp3 Hello! The brass patch at 42 sec is "Georges flutestuff" and it is played by Georges Poropat, with some Cubase ...

Re: Main synths used by Astral Projection

I once saw their kit list for the studio: It was almost every synth ever produced. They are gear collectors. I especially remember that they had 15-20 roland synths. All the junos, all the jupiters, all the JX series. The old prophets and moogs were also on the list, including the memorymoog.

Re: Why do presets universally suck?

I have never liked the factory presets on the D50. They use too many of the aliasing PCM sounds, while the strongest part of the synth is the simulated analog waves. The factory bank in Roland JX8P has always impressed me. One of the string sounds is really deep. And I like the factory sounds in DX7.

The Juno60 leadsound: It is from an interview with Magne in norwegian music magazine "Musikkpraksis". The sound was described by Magne as "The saw pattern". But the magazine is often wrong, and it is quite possible that Magne himself did not know the correct source of the sound. The final version wa...

Wayoutware have superb analog emulations, but they are so true to the original sound that many people think they sound bad. Mostly the sound of the old ARPs is mystified and over-glorified by people who haven't played the original synths. Then they try the ARP2600V by Arturia (which sounds more lik...
