Bought a JX3P in great shape with the PG200 from Madrasputin. A pleasure to deal with.

Re: Best Analog Modeling Sytnesizer On The Market
Best interface is the Nord Lead 3 followed closely by the previous Nord Leads.
Despite being cheaper, I find the overall sound, flexibility, and hands-on control of the Alesis Ion put in the upper echelon of VA synths. I would be hard-pressed to part with mine.

Re: The One(s) That Got Away
In 2002 I played with my first synthesizer in a pawn shop. It was a Jupiter 4, but I didn't have the $400 they were asking, nor did I know its true value.

Re: Which Akai MPC
i am starting to think i should replace my ESX with an mpc1000. i am currently using the roland mc-50 to drive the ESX . i prefer a linear sequencer, i tend to turn in circle endlessly on pattern based one'S . could the mpc1000 also replace my mc-50! this migth be a good move for me. it has better ...

Re: Which Akai MPC
The 1000 is a really good place to start. It's compact and simple, but can be given greater depth with the JJOS. If you want a real sample mangler, the MPC4000 is the best in the series. The 4000 is HUGE, though.

Re: Drum Synth Debate
I also support getting the Machinedrum. I was also using an EMX for a while before getting the MD, and like you was ignoring the synth parts and using it as a drum machine. Drum synthesis on the EMX is fun, but EXTREMELY limited by comparison to a Machinedrum. For example, I would often route the dr...

Re: Nord Lead 2X or 3?
I don't think the 2X is "better at analogue" than the 3, but better-suited for programming *vintage* analogue sounds. The 3 is quite capable of analogue emulations, but its interface tempts you to break new ground. The ease of assigning physical controllers (wheel, velocity, aftertouch...) also comp...

Re: Blofeld or Micron? (Not really a VS thread.....)
I love my Ion so much, but between the Micron (which I once owned) and the Blofeld, I would side with the Waldorf. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Lt3q5yduY8 That's a pretty convincing video, but hardly covers all territory the Blofeld is capable of. I am not a huge fan of the sterile and digital so...

Re: first thing you do when getting a new synth.
I've usually read the manual while the synth is in transit, so the first thing I do when I get one is set it up and begin programming familiar patches. Usually something simple like a bass or string patch at first that doesn't matter too much in case the patch naming and saving is confusing and can...
