Re: What Synth(s) Would You Use for Synthetic Drums?
I've definitely had success using the XTk, Evolver, and Polymorph for good synthy percussion. The Andy, not so much, but that probably says more about my programming ability than any problem with the synth - I'm convinced it could do anything. I don't think I would try to do such things with a V-Syn...

Re: Hooray for me! (Roland Juno 6)
The first vintage synth I ever bought, and where I really learned about subtractive synthesis in practice. It's limited, but what it can do is really, really nice. I wish I still had room for one.

Re: Your Synth Setup is now Extinct!
Fusion 8HD - Any old workstation, I suppose. Maybe a Fantom? Andromeda - It'd have to be a Jupiter 8. JD-800 - Waldorf XTk (cheating since I have one in the closet) V-Synth - Virus TI Polymorph - Pfff....a Korg MS2000 or Radias? Machinedrum - TS808 Wavestation SR, D-550, JV-1080 - Probably some sort...

Re: A guitarists perspective on old vs new synths :)
This thread is soul-destroying. The amount of stereotyping, 'everyone knows that', and e-peen comparing going on here is truly a bringdown. I think homeboy has his answer to his question. Everyone likes to defend their favorite turn ons from attack, and to justify the time and money spent to acquire...

Re: What's Your Favorite Keyboard Stand?
Not to hijack, but I'm currently looking for a double-tier for the studio. Anyone using the Quik Lok Z-726?? Anything to report, good or bad? http://www.music-west.com/images/quiklokZ-726.jpg I have two of these, and two heavy-duty X-stands in my studio. I couldn't hand with the A-frame models - I ...

Re: My (and Your) Favorite Minimoog Solos
I have to second Moraz's work on 'Sound Chaser', although to ignore Bernie Worrell's many amazing solos with Funkadelic around '73-'78ish would be a mistake.

Re: Korg Radias price drop to $699
That price drop brings it into the 'realistic' range from 'ridiculously overpriced'. I mean, you can get an MEK for $1000 if you look hard enough - that much for a Radias rack is pretty loony. It's OK - I didn't cotton to its sound much, and it really is just a blown-out MS2000, which is fine if you...

Re: ALL synths will eventually become vintage for somebody
I seem to remember someone on here making the statement that the M1 is prized in Tejano music circles for certain patches (accordion, horns, etc.) and that those boards regularly go for hundreds of dollars more in South Texas than they do anywhere else in the country. So yeah, the process has alread...

Re: Which synths were used on David Bowie's 'Berlin Trilogy'
I'm curious how similar the live setup that Micke mentions was to the set of synths Bowie used when touring and playing keys for Iggy Pop in 1977. I'm almost certain a Solina is heard on some of the bootlegs I've got of that tour.

Re: OSC Oscar - is it a classic and if so why?
There is so much information about this synth and the VST recreations of it that you should have NO problem finding this information out for yourself. A little bit of poking around yourself would be much more helpful than expecting it all to be served to you on a plate. Simply type in: OSCar synth ...

I'm pretty much expert in the Prophet 600, which is just slightly more complicated than a Juno 6/60/106.
I'm a frigging MASTER of the front panel of the Oberheim Matrix 1000, though! I can call up patches in mere milliseconds!

I couldn't answer fro firsthand experience. But, I once heard a story from a former Chroma Expander owner. He said that the wooden parts of the chasis started to come apart after a while. Someone else said that the Chroma casing was made of particle board. Is this true? The Chroma Polaris casing is...

Re: triing to get sounds for jv 880
The only sound cards I know of are the SR-JV-model expansion boards for the JV model synths. I've got one or two in my JV-1080. They're all over Ebay but I'm not sure that's what you're looking for. There are MIDI foot controllers for rack synths like the JV - is that what you're talking about? You ...

So is this going to be more or less complicated than the Fuzzface clone I made 10 years ago?
Sounds cool for the electrical engineers out there but holy h**l - godspeed to any inexperienced project builders who tackle this thing!

I was also an Eighties kid, so I would say the following probably had a huge effect on me: 1. Tangerine Dream's score to Risky Business 2. Miami Vice 3. Michael Jackson's Thriller 4. Early synthpop (Depeche Mode, Duran Duran, Gary Numan's 'Cars' has been mentioned) 5. Early 80's Rush and Yes I was a...
