Re: Geoff Downes 1980s Keyboard rig

Geoff Downes is definitely very talented and I have been a fan since The Buggles. The original video (the one that launched MTV) shows him playing two keyboards at once on either side of him. As a teenager, I thought this was impressive. I do agree with the performance standard of having several key...

Stoked About my Rig

Greetings: I have finally got a workable rig going. I set out to setup my home recording studio and purchased Pro Tools 11 (I am on a Mac) and Arturia Collection V which contains some great Virtual vintage synths like the Prophet V and Moog Mini. It also has a good ARP emulation. I went ahead a spen...

Re: Building my system

Cool! I since also found a M-Audio Midiman which I think is the same kind of device as you listed in your post. Looks like I will be investing in one of these boxes for sure, it also solves a problem I have had with my Roland Fantom X7 in that the drivers are not compatible to my latest version of M...

Re: Building my system

Hello meatballfulton: I appreciate the insight. The problem is I already own the SR-JV80-04 expansion board and so I would be essentially eating the $135 USD I paid for it if I don't buy the compatible unit for it. Being brand new to the Fantom, I trusted a seller that it would fit my Fantom and he ...

Re: Building my system

Greetings Bitexion: Thank-you for reply to my post! I really am interested in the Andromeda A6 for sure. I have been looking for one for quite a while now myself and they seem to be holding their value quite well (which means saving more money). I can afford most of the time to buy gear that is like...

Re: Building my system

Hey RonP: Thanks for the suggestions. I have always liked the Dave Smith fare (Sequential Circuits). The Phophet series certainly helped define my genre of music and naturally those were very capable back in the day. I will take that into consideration and indeed I have been working on my setup for ...

Building my system

Greetings Folks: I am finally on my way to building my kit up. So far, it consists of one Roland Fantom X7. I am planning to add a Roland JV-1080 sound module because I found a great expansion card for "Vintage Synthesizer Sounds" and that is one unit that can use the expansion card. That is going t...

Re: Trying to Find a Modern synth that does all this

Thank-you all for the replies and ideas, was exactly what I was looking for. The Kronos may be the way to go and all the synths I have scoped out are about $3k to $4k, so the suggestions are well within that price range. The John Bowen Solaris looks interesting too, but it doesn't look like I can go...

Trying to Find a Modern synth that does all this

Greetings: I have been on the sidelines looking to buy a synthesizer and came up with a few sounds I want to make sure I have plus it would be nice to have modern bells and whistles like aftertouch and I am loosing the word right now, but pressure sensitivity. I would love to just buy all the vintag...

Re: Need Some Direction in MIDI PC software

Thanks for all the leads guys. I am looking at Reaper and @pflosi, I used to be on a mac but when I needed to be portable and do my real job (which is programming for MS web development) it made more since to buy my current laptop for $599 (I am working for myself) than to spend $3000+ on a Mac that...

Re: Need Some Direction in MIDI PC software

Hi Guys: I found that a purchase I made may do the trick, there is a piece of software that I have used a lot that runs USD $70 approximately called N-Track Studio and I bought it to do some other audio work as an alternative to Audition (Cool Edit) by Adobe. It apparently supports VST and Ableton p...

Need Some Direction in MIDI PC software

Greetings All: Though I have always loved synthesizers, I know very little about working with them. Back in 1982 or so, my uncle gave me a ARP Axxe (which regrettably I sold for only $300 in about 1986). It did not function so I didn't learn how to play or anything. Was into guitar then ;-) Now at 3...
